Directv in Troy, Michigan - Your new format

our new format is totally unacceptable. The print is too small to be read if you are further than 5 feet from the TV. The background is black and makes reading the info almost impossible. I have both Direct TV and cable...am seriously considering canceling your service. I have been a customer for 10 years..never complained about anything...but this is too much.... our new format is totally unacceptable. We upgraded our equipment late in December 2011. We called shortly after Christmas to cancel our account due to problems many other Americans are facing. We cannot cancel without being charged of $400.00!!! This is outrageous to say the least! We have paid for...

You are much better off if you use a credit card because the cc have to accept your dispute whereas the banks sometimes does not.If they do return the money to your account(if they have charged you)bear in mind that it can also be placed back on your credit card pending the outcome of the cc's investigation.I'd certainly change the account DTV has on file for you either the # or a new account before you cancel service.

I had DTV for 5 months of pure ***,I cancelled, they charged my cc over $800 for early cancellation and nonret equipment but I fought them and won.I filed complaints with BBB,FTC & Attorney General in California where DTV is located.I also filed a complaint against my credit card for allowing the charges to go through after telleng me they would not allow these charges.the BBB helped me with the cc complaint,my money was returned and I closed the CC account. As Mom stated the cable co has a good deal call ask for their "Buy Back Program" I did this too and got 3 free months service plus I got my money back from DTV.

Directv and no Fox channel.

We are unable to watch the playoff games on FOX. There is no reason the consumer should have to pay for the channels while they negotiate. These stations should be available. There is no excuse when we pay our bill. There is no discount or compensation for this interruption. The company which is directv should offer some type of compensation until the matter is resolved. Instead when you call them they blame the local station for the black out and Directv does not take any responibilty for the problem we as consumers are stuck with. Please reconsider doing something in return for your customers.

I agree with the complaint. Settle the suit or give us 50% credit because we are losing a major station.

Directv in Hartford, Connecticut - Direct TV charging me $480 dollars for 48 hours of service

In a effort to rein in our bills my wife contacted AT&T to see if our phone, bundle package could be reduced. They sold her on the Idea of switching from dish network, to direct TV. AT&T's "new partner". I was listening to the conversation and she was told we would still have all the same options. Well after a 2 hour Install with new holes in our house we find out how much was different, and the services were not at all equivalent. My wife called Direct TV to complain about the differences, she was informed that if she wanted to cancel the service she should have called within 24 hours not 48 hours, and there would be a $480.00 termination fee. So much for trying to save money. I called the Direct TV call center, because my wife was to upset at this point. They were very nice, but I spoke with a supervisor who informed me that no one at the Call center had authority to change or reduce the bill. My only hope is to try thru the corporate website complaint section. After some searching online it seems as though there are quite a few people in a similar situation, as to being misled into a contract by being verbally told one thing and delivered another. Anyway I know I face many hours of phone calls to get this resolved, I was just hoping that Channel 3 could shed some light on the dealings of this company, and find out if this is more common or perhaps really is just a mistake. I did find it ironic that it would make a great headline 480 dollars for 48 hours of direct TV service. I will solider on in my quest to get this resolved but I would be deeply grateful for any assistance Channel 3 could provide.

I had Directtv bundled with AT&T and I honestly don't know which is worse, they are both scam artist working together to take advantage of the consumer.. MR.Prudenza...First:If you have cancelled service,I would highly recommend changing your account # that DTV has on file for you before they charge your account. Then, write your local troubleshooter from you local tv station or newspaper. This is one time that you will have to do most of the work yourself because the BBB,FTC and Attorney generals get so many complaints just like yours that they don't even bother answering them.

If you used a credit card you can dispute the charges and the cc will reverse the charges but there is no guarantee the charges will not be reapplied after their investigation, the only way to stop this is to close the cc after the charges are reversed. You can also use the arbitration process to try and get your money refunded if they have already taken it.You can try calling the corporate office of DTV but this may not help either.Bear in mind, that DTV are professionals at this, they have scammed thousands and thousands of people over the years and they know all the tricks. Also, when returning their equipment, get a tracking # so you can prove they got it,DTV often tries to charge the customer for this too saying they did not receive the equipment.

I set up an auto payment from my bank acct years ago, at least 3yrs. That was for 115.00 monthly which included NFL sunfay ticket.

No movie channels. Now my bill has gone to 163.00 without adding anything except HD on one tv that is $10 extra. These people are pricing themselves out of business. Just like the electric co.

is doing. Next week my solar panels will be workin and I hope to kiss that overpriced bill good bye!

In the USA most states have a 3 day conciliation law.. Florida also has a lemon law for unfair or ripoff products.

You state may also. I would encourage you to speak to the consumer affairs dept in your capital Attorney General's office.

You can be held to whatever you agree to contractually but not if it is illegal in your state.

I have cable and it costs a lot. I was thinking about changing to satellite TV but may slow down and investigate more.

Blocking out fox network is unacceptable, I've been a customer of Direct TV since 1996 and I am not happy. I am currently looking into U-Verse, comcast and dish. The companies are anxious to get business, seems Direct TV has become complacent.

For all the greed in the world, why are NBC and DiretTV hating customers so much????

And the US/MA governments aren't any better... this whole mess falls through the cracks in regulations! It totally amazes me that nobody cares about consumers anymore!

You would think, at the very least, that DirectTV would UPDATE the alerts after 5 days of this mess, but they won't even do that!

Directv in Saint Paul, Minnesota - *** Deposits

My husband and I just moved back to Michigan and wanted to get satelite again. My husband has an old account in which he paid a $ 200 deposit. When we had the satelite shut off we never got the deposit back and now that we want the satelite turned back on....Direct Tv wants another $ 200 deposit! This is ***! I think that either we should have got our deposit back or they should reinstall satelite on their dime! In this economy, we cannot afford ANOTHER deposit! Our account was left in good standing. This is really wrong! Also, the lady we talked to on the phone was trying to be pushy about getting the service and I told her that if they wanted our business so bad, they would make this situatation right!!

Wow, I went with DirecTV hoping I would get a quality company. If I knew how sketchy their moving package and program was set up I never would have gone with the company.

With all their advertising stating you can save over $500 & DTV encouraging you that moving would be a breeze I thought it would then be an easy check off my list. WRONG! I ended up being charged $300 just to move one box, a number which changes each time I call to see exactly what I'm being charged for. The reliability and quality of help I thought I would get has never been seen.

Finally after everything was said and done, DTV ended up being the worst part of my move. Customer Service was no help as no one had any idea what they were doing and no one could explain exactly where all the numbers for my charges were coming from, if you ever actually ended up talking to a real person that is.... In the end DTV was just another overpriced, over hyped gymic that was no different if not worse than other companies.

I will encourage all of my friends to not go with this company merely because if you ever need help it is impossible to get it and the cost is not worth it.

Directv - Channel 7, WSVN in South Florida

After barbecuing, everybody was excited to watch the playoffs; Surprise, Surprise!!! NO NFL game. I just called Direct TV customer service, and asked what are they doing at this time to solve this problem. The answer was, "We are still negotiating with WSVN". How Long? At this time we are still in negotiation with WSVN." This is very frustrating, and no apologies!!!! Play off season, my other shows were there! And we loyal customers will just wait until they are done negotiating? Time to pull the plug, what am I paying Direct TV for? No notices, no apologies, no warnings....

are you going to adress any issues with your customers? you have offered no explanation for channel 7 and the other problems with your station .

I have contacted several of WSVN's advertisers and told them that I will never do business with them as long as they advertise on WSVN. Your Directv rates are going to go up because of WSVN who is supposed to provide free TV according to there license!

If you like paying for something thats supposed to be free then sit on your hands and do nothing! This is more then them turning off there station now, its about a station thats supposed to provide free TV that now has the power to indirectly charge the viewer to see there programing! We all know about there weak signal so a antenna is not a option for many, thats why we receive locals threw are satellites, *** 7 will never turn up the signal as long as people go to satellite and cable to view there programing !

Because they know they can charge satellite and cable providers more money for retransmission they have no incentive to turn up the signal because that would cut into there new source of retransmission revenue ! The best and dirtiest way to fight back is to continue ( if you can still receive there channel ) watching your favorite shows but take the time write down there advertisers and give them a call !

Directv in Santa Cruz, California - My Son's death!

I have spoken on two different occasions to a direct TV representative. I have written two letters asking that my account be closed because of my son's suicide. I left my home in November and I'm in an apartment where they do not allow dishes. Direct TV still wants to charge me an early disconnection fee of $400.00. I am now unemployed and just trying to get myself together. I was not dis-satisfied with the service, I need to cancel because of circumstances beyond my control. When do you give a little compassion and bend your rules?

If the contract/subscription is not in your name then there is nothing they can do. As long as your name is not associated with them, then you are not responsible.

If the above is the case then tell them to sue you.

They know they will lose. They are trying to scare you into paying.

I am a customer of Direct TV and we have been 99% pleased with the service provided by them. Several months ago FX channel posted something on their channel that they were in contract negotiations with Direct TV and there was a possibility that we may lose that channel...

Firstly, Directv was the only pay TV company in 3 years to reach a negotiation agreement with Fox before the channels were pulled from the lineup. No other company accomplished a successful renegotiation without 7-30 days with those channels not available to their customers.

Secondly, no pay TV company, no matter how big or small, has NOT had to pull channels from their lineup due to 300% or higher rate increase demands.

Go ask your employer to give you a 300% raise, they will politely wish you luck in finding a new job.

It doesn't matter where you go if you switch companies, you will experience this again. Might as well stay with the one that will immediately request affiliate permission to provide the New York and Los Angeles feeds of the missing local networks (which may or may not get approved, but no other company even makes the effort to request that permission for you).
