Directv in Tampa, Florida - *** Installers

I signed up for Direct Tv and was scheduled for an install 10/6/11.I had left my work early for this and the installer aws scheduled between 2 and 4pm.I recieveied a call from the installer @ 2:10 Pm and I informed him I would be leaving @ 2:30 andshould arrive in 15 min.In the meantime I had asked him to check the line of site ,due to some trees .Well this guy didn't even know which direction he had to point the dish. Also when my elderly stepmother ask him a question about Blue Ray he became rude and informed her it was none of her business,Also this person was hispanic and asked her to speak spanish.Of course she didn't know how.Is Direct TV hiring uneducated Refugies?

The attorney general and the bbb has so many complaints against DTV that they do not even bother answering most of them.Sometimes they file a class action law suite with other Attorney generals from other states but it takes years and nothing really comes of it.The best thing to do is check out a company before getting involved with them and google the complaints that others have filed against DTV.

I have nothing bad to say about the installer, he was the only honest one. Customer Service was not honest about installation and they were very misleading.

I'm sure the Attorney General will be interested to know the facts of the scam. Charges are being hidden until the installer gets to the residence. Then "surprise" a charge.

I was told No Money out of pocket!! Lies, Lies, Lies!!

Directv in Richardson, Texas - Direct TV "Stolen Identity" They allowed someone to make changes on my account.

The Direct TV bill is my name, yet they allowed my husband to call in add an HD receiver and upgrade my current package (football, no less) to my account without verification. Now I'm being billed for a receiver and upgrade. I talked with Direct TV customer service for a very long time. The representative was not at all sympathetic or concerned with resolving the issue. He said, "He was your husband so we added the account changes." Did he not hear me say, "X-husband"? Direct TV will not budge on removing the charges and the receiver was never shipped to me. I have totally canceled the account, just to rectify the charges, which I now have to get my attorney to have my x-husband pay me back. Yea right! No one from Direct TV bothered to call or write me stating someone had made changes to my account. Now they say I have to pay. To me this is the same as someone calling my charge card and charging items to my account and the credit card company saying, "Oh well, you hat to pay for things a stranger puts on your credit."

If you are cancelling DTV, watch for charges on your cc or bank statement from DTV for early cancellation fees as well as possible nonreturned equipment fees.If they have not placed these charges yet you can stop it by closing the account you gave to DTV. If it is a credit card, you can dispute the charges but be aware the charges can be put back on if they find in DTV's favor.if you return equipment be sure to get tracking # to verify they get the items.

Directv in Nashville, Tennessee - Direct TV - Changed my package and wants to charge me more for what I wanted ...

I researched my TV choices and saw 4 packages offered by Direct Tv. I selected the choice package which gave me everything I wanted for a price I wanted to pay HOWEVER they ended up giving something called the Select Service which gave me over 50 channels less so I didn't get some channels I wanted and now they want me to pay $20 more for the channels I thought I was getting. In calling customer service, the rep was really attacking, raised her voice at me and told me after 2 years I could cancel. I asked since I just got the service if I could cancel now, and she refused. I told them, that I am a very unhappy customer and all they had to say was, "Im sorry to hear that, I hope you have a good day" -.-

They have lots and lots of very "unhappy" customers just like you that are stuck in contracts with DTV.The best thing for you to do would be to take the time and read as many of the complaints that others have filed and maybe in time you can come up with something to get you out of their contract but don't depend on DTV to help you....They Will Not!

DirecTV stole money from my bank account.

When we cancelled DirectTV we were charged $111.07 for receivers which we already returned. This fee was deducted, without warning, directly from our bank account. When we called to dispute the charge we were told it would be returned within 3 days. When we didn't receive it withing 3 days we were told it would be a month. Before that month's time we were sent a check for $70.07. When we called to inquire why the check was $41 dollars short we were told it was a "Programming Adjustment". No bill was received for this adjustment and this was after we already had paid a $237.17 cancellation fee. So, they took $111.07 dollars from our account stating it was for the boxes, only returned $70.07 and kept $41.00 for undocumented and unrelated charges that I have no proof are accurate AFTER we cancelled services. Shady unfair business practices, rude "customer service", imaginary charges.

Directv in Tampa, Florida - I couldn't get closed captioning on my DirectTV dvr. New DVR would add 2 yrs to my contract

I've had DirectTV since 2009, with the DVR they included in the package. It would never show closed captioning, a feature that should be on all21st century equipment--after all, it's not new technology. They told me they would replace the DVR with one that was up to standard for $19.95 s&h. Good deal, right? Wrong. In addition to the fact that they'd supplied me with antiquated equipment, they also informed me this "upgrade" (to 21st C) would extend my contract by two more years. I told them to forget it. And, as soon as my contract is up, they are out of here!! I am disgusted at being roped into a longer agreement to get the quality of equipment I should have received 2 years ago! Until tonight, I would have recommended them Now, they are on my discard pile!

This is how they rope people in,they give them faulty, out dated equipment and if something happens and the equipment needs to be replaced(which they are pretty sure it will before the 2 yrs is up)they then, replace the equipment with more faulty equipment that will surely break before another 2 yrs.....you were luck though, they don't usually disclose that this will add another 2 yrs to the customer until it is too late..equipment received=new contract for DTV customer does not know until they try to cancel service.

Directv - Never again

I have said it before but then went back, not this time. I disconnected service because I moved and could not take it to my new rental. I understand that I signed a contract and had to pay the early termination fee, that part irritated me but I was over it. Everything else has been horrible. I couldn't get boxes to send my receivers back, it took 3 phones calls, and don't get me started on that automated system. I hate that voice. Then the day after I paid my final bill through my bill pay they charged my debit card the full balance so I actually paid it twice. I called for a refund and was told 10 days. After 10 days I called and was told 6 to 8 weeks, when I complained she put me on hold and never came back. I called back and "Maurice", who was very nice told me up to 30 days. It takes them 1 day late to debit my account and 30 days to give me a refund, that is ***. The service is horrible, expensive, and when we used the dvr half the time the play back was sketchy. When we signed up we had another mess of problems. So far with Cox cable it has been smooth sailing.

I wish you luck in getting your money back. You might try to talk to your bank and see if you can dispute the charge to DTV.If the bank allows this, ask them how to keep DTV from trying to take the money again from your account(in case they do)Next be sure to get a tracking # for the equipment to verify DTV gets it otherwide they may say they did not and try to charge you for this as well.Don't put anything past DTV!They use all the dirty tricks they can to get and keep your money!

It isn't always a matter of time. Many of the promotions being offered, for example free HD service; are predicated upon signing up for auto withdrawal payment.

Another satisfied debit card customer. When will people learn to NOT let anyone just go into your accounts and withdraw money automatically? Are you people really that busy that you cannot take the time to look at your bills and then pay them via cheque, online at/with your banque, etc.

Resolved: Directv in Boston, Virginia - Direct TV Doesn't Care about service Just your money!

Update by user Nov 06, 2011

Nothing new to report. I finally received a E-mail from Direct about a week ago saying they would look into the matter.

They also said I shouldn\'t have contacted the Atty General because they felt it could be handled had I contacted them with my concerns.OMG! I told them I had spent countless hours on the phone with them to no resolution. I told them I was fully aware of the Class Action Lawsuit they are involved with concerning these very issues! I still have no resolution!

My son is being deployed to Afganistan and they let him out of his contract, no termination fee! So I guess it\'s going to take me going with him?

This company has become one of the best scam artist around. Each person only tells you about half of what you need to know. They lie to you and then deny, deny, deny! They must have a school to sell and not deliver. They remind me of one of those "FREE" trips to Branson. You never get what you expect. They will extend your contract on you without you knowing and will never tell you! You might as well be talking to the wall when you are looking for service, cause they can't Hear.....You! I mean what do you think of a company that goes on National TV and Bad mouth's their competition? Does that make you want it more?

Directv in Boston, Virginia - Direct TV Rip Off (Nothing's Free)

Update by user Nov 22, 2011

How about this. direct TV responded to the AG\'s office(not me) and said, although they did review their agreement and were correct, there may not have been proper disclosure for the \"FREE\" DVR and so they were going to wave the entension of the 2 year agreement.

How Kind of them.

Funny thing is, they contradict themselves in their own letter by saying the DVR upgrade was \"FREE\" but they were going to wave the 2 year contract extension? How does that equal free????

I contacted direct TV and of course while I was on the phone I got the sales pitch. We can give you Free HBO and then if you don't want it after the 3 month's you cancel at no charge. Also Let me give you Free HD channels for 3 month's, once again you need to call by a specific date to cancel. Guess what before the date I was suppose to cancel I got a charge for the "Free" HD channels. Surprise! I was taught long ago nothing is free, but I continue to get sucked in. Every time I call Direct TV I get a totally different answer or they never listen to you, they just keep repeating their answer like a recording. So back to me getting the equipment. I call for the equipment, apparently when you order different equipment then they consider that an upgrade. I was told by the installer they send out the upgrade because my old system would not be capable of doing what was needed. Turns out the reason I now had to have an installer out (cost me 19.99) because my system was now a DVR and he had to do something to the dish? Here's the kicker, Direct TV automatically extends you contract to an additional 24 month's when you upgrade. Here's the biggest News Flash! They don't tell you! That's right I was never told, or signed anything agreeing to a 24 month extension. What a Rip off. Oh you want to cancel? How about 20.00 a month for the remaining amount of your new contract! (Extortion!) I was so upset after telling my story 3 times and a 4Th person will be calling me back. I have a serious heart condition and these people have aggravated be every time I call. It's funny how the big companies get big my screwing the little guys! No one there listen's!

DirecTV rips you off by non-disclosure, including re-starting your contract time with them if you upgrade a piece of equipment. Your time starts again.......

You are absolutely correct in saying DTV does all that to their customers and more. They do not listen, they are there to get your money and extend your contract anyway they can. the best thing to do is calm down and not deal with them, read the complaints/answers of others and you will pick up more information on DTV and what they do to their customers.

Directv in Boston, Virginia - Direct TV No communication (Nothing's Free)

I have been a customer of direct TV for about 2 years. Recently Direct TV sent me a notice in the mail and on my e-mail urgently wanting me to call and change out my equipment because my local area was doing something that affect the local channels and I would not be able to get them. I received numerous letters and E-mail's indicating this. I contacted direct TV and of course while I was on the phone I got the sales pitch. Just Say No to DirecTV.

I signed up for DirecTV a year ago when I moved into my apartment building. Personally, I did not want the service, but it was the only cable offered at my apartment complex. The first issue began very early when I tried to pay my first bill online. I had registered my account, but for some reason I could not log in. Thinking I may be at fault and using the wrong password, I clicked the button for forgot password. I got an error message that said the email account was not recognized... Interesting, because DirecTV had no problem sending my bill to that same email. I called them in regard to this issue, they reset my password to something generic and told me to change my password once I logged in. I was able to log in and pay my bill, but when I tried to change my password, I got that same error message that the account was invalid. WTF? I followed this same procedure, with the same result, for another few months, and then finally decided I would like to receive paper statements and send a check instead. Really? In this day and age, it is ridiculous that you can't figure out online bill pay. Come on DirecTV! This seems like a small issue now, considering my newest one. I have been without service for over a month, and am STILL paying, because DirecTV has put me on autopay, despite my request not to. My service doesn't work, I have given them 2 opportunities to fix it, they can't, and still want me to pay over $180 to cancel! Is this logical? I think not. It's like, if I ordered a chair, and it had no legs, it would be taken back and I would be refunded. If you have a cable box, with no signal, you still have to pay, and you have to pay to give it back. Confused, annoyed, and very angry.

If DTV has your bank or cc# for the autopay you need to change that# asap.If you stay with them, do consider sending money orders to pay their bill so they do not get or have your account # on file. If you do not pay them and they have you account 3,they can debit your account for the $180+ nonreturned equipment fees. if you cancel service, get tracking # for the equipment to prove they get it back
