Directv in Tracy, California - Could not handle simple request

A problem I feel needs to be corrected sooner than later. When we signed up for DirectTV we apparently received a promotion or trial of the NFL Sunday Ticket programming. We just recently received an email saying this programming will automatically be renewed. We do not watch football or any other sports, besides NASCAR. So I wanted to call and cancel this programming prior to renewal. I called customer service last night, they informed me there was only one department that can cancel this, so I was transferred. I ended up on hold for over 25 minutes before hanging up. Had other business to take care of could not call back. I called back this morning, explained my frustration, customer service apologized and transferred me to the single department that can cancel my programming, 15 minutes later, yes, still on hold and had to hang up to take care of other business. I called back again right after hanging up, explained the even more frustration and ask for a supervisor, she apologized, put me on hold, came back and informed me that she was transferring me to her supervisor. Again, over 10 minutes on hold, no supervisor and I actually think she transferred me to the wrong line. I heard the same sports recording that I heard when I had been transferred to the area to cancel my programming. So of course, not happy at all, I hung up and called back, again. Spoke to a gentleman by the name of Cory, explained, again, and I told Cory I did not want to be put on hold and wanted to speak to a supervisor. Cory did just that and got me to supervisor. I explained to Angelic the floor supervisor, she understood and she removed the NFL Sunday Ticket from my account, even though I was told no one could do this except for an individual department. Yes, my request was taking care of, but I type this to you so that this lack of good customer service, hopefully, does not happen to others. Possibly some better training to prevent this situation in the future.

Hopefully they did as you want but I would not count on it..Check your next month's bill and see if you aren't still being charged for the NFL Sunday Ticket.

Don't take any guff off DirecTV

DirecTV gets away with all sorts of shenanigans because consumers worry about their credit score taking a hit. You have more power than you think. DirecTV charged my credit card $440 saying I broke the 2-yr contract. I told them they never established acceptable service even after a 'repair.' I tried to work out a solution with them, but all I got were canned answers about their policy. I was certain I had never even seen the 2-yr contract, much less signed one. After way too much back and forth, I was told the first part of the contract was in the installation email confirmation (huh?). How could that be binding when I never saw it and I sure didn't sign anything? They told me the second part of the contract was on the form the installation guy held out for me and said 'sign here,' you know like I was acknowledging his installation. Ethical business practice?? Let me try to shorten this saga. Because DirecTV charged my Visa $440, I complained in writing to Visa, BBB, Federal Trade Commission, and my state attorney general. Visa reversed the charges. DirecTV sent me to collections. I contacted an attorney that the AG recommended. When he learned I had documentation of my attempts to work with DirecTV, he basically told me I didn't need his services and that I was golden. He told me to make copies of all communication and mail it to DirecTV certified, signature required. Tell them I had received counsel to take such action and that I wasn't going to pay them. Write the collections agency they sent me to as a result of the Visa reversed charges directing them to cease and desist because the charges were in dispute. He also told me to check my credit reports to determine if DirecTV had reported anything negative. If they had, I was to dispute it on the website. He said in order for DirecTV to get any payment from me, they would have to take me to court and that it was highly unlikely they would do so or that any judge would rule in their favor. Bottom line: I never heard from the collection agency again. There were no hits on my credit reports. And I never heard from DirecTV again. I think you could get by with less hassle than I had. Deal with your credit card issuer and document every communication with DirecTV. Keep an eye on your credit reports, and tell any collections agency to cease and desist. It sure worked for me.

I had this problem also and I agree with everything you said I got my money back by doing basically what you did but there is one thing you must be made aware of and that is your credit card at the end of its dispute investigation can and just may place the charges right back on your card. So be aware of this and know you may have to close your credit card account.I had American Express and I was pretty sure they were going to find in DirectTV's favor.

It's good to read a story about a consumer who stood up for their rights when they were being tread upon by a large corporate entity.

I was once considering becoming a DirecTV subscriber, but after seeing hundreds of complaints against them all over the internet, I decided against it. I wonder if DirecTV realizes how much business they are losing out on due to their bad behavior?

My mother had a account with Directv. I had on numerous occasions paid her bill for her. I first paid them over the phone talking to a rep. They NEVER informed me that I was being entered into a contract with them. For that matter, I had to put her on the phone...

Directv cancellation poor service

to cancel service with direct tv takes an hour on the phone with representative & can't get hold of the supervisor. . Very, very poor service. we are moving out of Nevada going to Minn. that we don't need the services of direct tv. The representative gives us the round around for almost one hour & extra fees to almost punish us to cancel the service. We have been with direct tv since 2005 & didn't have any problem until it's time to cancel. Changes in cancellation procedure should be made. Consumers don't have to go thru frustrating process.

I am truly disspaointed in the lack of respect and professionalism that I received from direct TV today. Customer service was terrible.

My family and I recently moved onto a millitary installation (base housing). There are restrictions against attaching anything to the home or any permanent/semi permanent structures. The installing technician suggested we use a metal stand that would take up 1/3 of our very small patio. This metal structure did not look safe or practical, but this was the only option provided. I denied the option.

After 2 hours on the phone with a representative who repeatedly put me on hold, and allowed me to listen to her breathing and smacking away on gum I hung up. I called back and was very direct this time and got the Rep to discontinue my service. I know have to pay 20$ a month for service I can't have.

i posted this may 31 2011 today..i am disgusted with direct tv. they take the money eft & i don\'t see the bill, when i questioned them, they say i did, just look at the money they have stole out of my acct.

i don\'t mind paying if i owe, but i do not owe this kind of money every month.. this is wrong, i am a senior,

I have called direct tv, left messages, been on hold for hours, talked to rude people & when i finally get someone , they put me on hold some more to get a supervisor, I have been charged for channels i don't get service calls i didn't get anytrhing fixed, i have direct bundled with verizon & broadband, they charge me for movies i haven't watched, i need help with this, it is totally out of control, i tell them i want to shut my service off, they say they will charge me penalities..what can i do, i think they are bullying people into their service, i have been a customer years and to be done this way is not right.. they are charging for services i do not have, & it doesn't work half the time

First. (if you have autopay) you need to stop auto pay with DirectTV.tell them to send you a bill.

2.Talk to your bank and change account numbers if possible(do not give number to DirectTV)

do the same if using credit card.

3.Call or write your local "troubleshooter" that works with your local newspaper or tv station and tell them exactly what is happening.(or have a family member help)

You did not say how long you had been with DTV.Their contract is 2 yrs and if you order any new equipment or new services this extends your contract for another 2 years.Please beaware if they have your bank account # or credit card # they can take out money or place charges against your account at any time without your permission.

Directv in Burbank, California - Direct Tv

Had a horrible experience with Direct Tv. I had a scheduled appointment for Monday the 30th between 8AM-12Noon. I called twice in the morning to confirm the appointment. Both of the Direct Tv reps confirmed that a technician was scheduled and on their way. At 11:45 I called once again because I hadn't heard from the technician. At this point the Direct Tv rep told me that they had no one scheduled for me on that day. But that they did have me scheduled for Tuesday between 8-12noon and that they would certainly try and make me their first appointment. The rep advised me to call at 7am to ensure the technician would make it to my place asap.. Forward to Tuesday. I called at 7am. They said the technician was dispatched and would call me soon. 12 noon. No call...no technician. I call again and the Direct Tv rep now tells me they are very busy and that they will be there between 12noon and 1pm. I had to leave for work. So I rescheduled for Wednesday morning. After thinking about the horrible customer service I decided to cancel my installation. When I talked to the rep he told me that he would cancel my appointment for Wednesday afternoon. AFTERNOON?? are yo serious. Direct Tv you lost one customer and I am certain other people feel the same. I will never do business with such an incompetent company again!

Installation was set for Tuesday between 1 & 5. Tech calls @ 3:30 saying he was having vehicle problems and it would be "around 7 PM". At 7:30 Supervisor calls to see if the installation was done. I said he never showed up.

Installation reset for Wednesday @ 5 PM since I told the dude I had already taken a half day off from work.

At 1:15 tech calls and says he will be at my house in 15 minutes--I'M AT WORK!!! He says he was not told to be there at 5.

With this kind of installation nightmare, I will NEVER consider Direct TV while I still have my sanity. What a way to run a business!!!

Directv in Grosse Ile, Michigan - Directtv offers substandard service

I am a directtve customer. I've had this service for several years. I've watched directtv become a substandard company. One of my problems is with the technical unit relating to maintenance. My service has been having a problem with a clear and concise picture. i made a request for service over a week ago. a service person came out, was here about 10 minutes. He stated he had fixed the problem. Later in the day i realized he didn't fix the problem. i clled in again. it was my understanding someone would be here Tuesday. It did'nt happen. Its Tuesday and my service is not correct. When the problem occurs the directtv logo appears on the screen and floats. i am currently without correct service that I've paid for. I'm unhappy at this point.

TThis company lied to me I'm in a 24month plan with a secure price monthly and after the first year my bill went up almost 200.00 dollars they lie to you to get your business and after that its nothing but bad service I'm sick of direct tv I'm hiring an attorney cus I'm sick of this ***. You call and ask for a supervisor and it seems like your talking to the same person that treated you like *** I don't recommend this company to no one its *** I'm going to use time warner

First no way your bill went up $200.00. Unless you have been watching alot of PPV or ADULT Programming. SOUNDS MORE LIKE THE WIFE WAS OUT OF TOWN!

Second what consumer doesn't read over TERMS AND CONDITIONS of the service.

Third What consumer thinks a company will give them free Equipment without some of making sure they keep you with the service for a length of time.

Directv in Marietta, Georgia - Return 3 and keeping one box I brought at best buy.

About 3 year ago I switch to Direct TV.Sign a 2 year contact and got 3 receiver box.I buy a HD TV like two month later and the picture was not clear. I call customer service they you can buy a HD Receiver for $200 at best buy.Now my contact is up, So I switch over to Comcast for better service!! I got bill today for all 4 receiver , box not return I owe $300-400. I call customer service they said we fix the problem. I talk to 4-5 manager they said keep the box. Only one manager said no its Direct TV box!!! The problem was I was transform form manager to manager. I'm Pissed can some want help me out!! jdaraseng@gmail.com

This is how the Scam works between DirectTV and Best Buy: Best Buy sells the HD Receiver and conveniently does not tell the customer that it is the property of DirectTV(this is in fine print on the box the Receiver came in)and most customers don't even notice! even though the customer pays for the receiver or so the customer thinks.

Best Buy makes a Hefty profit and DirectTv has the right to ask for the box to be returned at end of the customers service or Direct will turn it over to collections which will hound the customer day and night and report it on the customers credit report and if Direct has your bank account# or credit card# they will just place the charge on these.Either way DirectTV wins Big and the customer is the loser. The only recourse the customer has is to file a report with the BBB,Ftc and your Attorney General.

Directv in Cleveland, Ohio - DirectTv Customer Service

We lost the TV service (possibly due to the weather) and when I contacted DirectTV, the best they could do is send a tech out in 5 days! 5 days!!!! Nowhere in their contract does it say they will take 5 days to restore service. And how convenient, I have to take half day off work to be here for the tech, because if I wanted evening hours, it would take 7 days. As far as any type of compensation, I'll have to call them once the service is restored and they'll see what they can do! How very special. I think this constitutes the breach of contract on their side. If I were to break the contract, there would've been a penalty of several hundred dollars. If they fail to provide service, there's possibly a few dollars that I have to call and ask for. This is very poor customer service - right here in the USA! This is worse than poor - this sucks!!!!
