Qwest & DirecTV Scams & Lousy Service

Not two days ago, I went through a terrible ordeal with my Qwest HD Internet, land-line phone installation and the Qwest/DirecTV bundling. All I wanted was to reactivate my old phone number (I had VoiP for 10 days and hated the lack of reliability and sound quality) and the Qwest customer service rep. talked me into bundling their HD Internet and DirecTV, too. Hey, I'm all for saving money. For two days Qwest's own system could not even locate my phone number so I was without voicemail & email. Their so-called super fast HD Internet (12 mbps is all they offer in Portland, OR even though their ads say they offer up to 40 mbps) was so slow I might have been better off with a dial-up modem. Speed testing the line showed download speeds were only 9 mbps consistently. A Qwest tech support person told me it might take a week to fix my voicemail & email problems & I told him he had 6 hrs. to fix my account or I would cancel all services. They did get my account straightened up within the 6 hours, but I was so upset I cancelled their very slow HD Internet & the DirecTV install. I'm glad I cancelled the Qwest/DirecTV installation because they don't offer the better deals you would get from signing up with DirecTV by yourself. I became upset with DirecTV because they don't have any phone #'s on their website except for the "Order Now" number. If you want to contact customer service you must use their website to try and find FAQ's to address your questions. After much ado, I finally tricked DirecTV into taking my phone call by calling the automated installation number that Qwest had given me. Finally, I got some answers to my questions. My big fear with DirecTV was having roof damage because I live in a very windy area and I was told that I could put the dish on a pole that they would provide. After probling the DirecTV Sales Support person, he admitted that the pole would cost me $75.00 and that I might live in an area where I would still have to have the roof installation in order to get a signal. I, also, found out that they had already charged my account with a so called "handling fee" for $19.95 even though I called 3 days in advance to cancel the install. So, my question is: what happened to the free installation they brag about? The sales person said it would take 3-5 business days to get my refund and I had to pull some teeth to get their phone # in case I didn't get it, as stated. They did not want to give me a cancellation confirmation #, either. DirecTV trains their Sales people to be extremely aggressive in keeping new installations, so beware. Comcast's rates are sky high, but at least their internet download speeds are around 22 mbps, not 9 mbps and the service is very reliable. Please note that in fine print, Qwest states that their internet speeds are "up to" 12 mbps, not that you'll get 12 mbps. I wish there was an honest company out there who wasn't always trying to screw their customers with lies, lousy service & very high rates. None of these companies (Qwest, Comcast and DirecTV) ever tell you about their hidden fees & how much the taxes will be for their services, which can be substantial. Thanks for hearing me out.

1-800-531-5000 - this number is not a secret. I apologize that you didn't use other resources to find the number (Google, Owner's Manual).

Granted, the number shouldn't be a scavenger hunt on the website, but this number isn't in a nilla envelope labeled 'Top Secret'

Also, I don't know your experience with Comcast, but they have insane service reliability issues. Everyone I know has their internet down 1-2 times a week for a prolonged period. I pay for 22 mbps and only get 10, but I am done trying to get technicians out here. Also, I don't Know about you but, Comcast is trying to take away net neutrality.

This is where you pay for bandwidth you use, instead of just a monthly payment for unlimited use.

This is what Canada is going through at the moment. This is something no one besides BOD and Executive staff of Comcast should want.

Directv in Dallas, Texas - No one has helped me after hrs. on the phone.

I am so unhappy with dtv. I just had a tv hooked up for my disabled son and the receiver doesn't work correctly. It records shows not for a child and keeps going to a channel I had never seen before (activate). I am paying for something that we are not getting and have spoken to 3 people and been on the phone for hours! This is ridiculous and I have been a customer since direct tv started (when on a trip and with a son housewatching, he switched it to dish). I should never have switched it back to direct tv. I even had one rep. from dtv tell me I couldn't get a new receiver because you would lose money. Well, I am not paying for something we cannot get. I am the only adult in the household and the only one that uses the remote. please help us; thank you. kathleen pedigo kspjlp@yahoo.com

Directv in Dallas, Texas - Loss of cable last three days

Loss of satelite over certain periods of time during the last three days for a total of twenty or more hours of cable service. (1.) Feb. 2nd, 6:00 P.M- ? C.S.T.; (2.)Feb. 3rd, 11:00 A.M. - 6:00 P.M., C.S.T.; and (3.) Feb. 4th, 11:00 A.M. - 6:00 P.M., C.S.T. In between, the reception is good. We had a large snow storm this week but I have ceased to believe that this accounts for the loss of service. I think you are just "dinking" with the service without any notification to me. Now I am "dinked!!!" I pay too much for the service to be treated as such. David H. Hatton, w.w.w.CWDOC1@YAHOO.COM, (217) 793-1564

Cooking spray, some say, will keep rain and snow from sticking to the dish. When I had DTV it went out at least 2 times each week it seemed if the wind blew or a bird flew over ect it went out

Direct Tv spends all kinds of money trying to lure new flies into the trap, but could care less about current customers, or creating programs for Seniors or people on fixed incomes. One should not have to spends upwards of $100.00 a month to watch tv.

Directv in Detroit, Michigan - Direct TV - Great at first, now I want out!!!

At 1 year I upgraded to DVR's and since have had nothing but issues. replaced the hardware 4 times, had a service call and each attempt made it worse. During the service call they told me that I had to move my dish or they would no longer service it despite the $5.99 a month and the fact that they installed it originally. I have cement fiber siding so moving it would cause significant damage to the siding. Per my suggestion, they adjusted the angle to get the signal numbers they require and did not move it. I tried calling today to cancel only to find that upgrading the receivers automatically renews your contract for 2 years with no cooling off period. If you decide to cancel it is $20 a month for all remaining months. So I called again to get service and they told me that despite the history and despite the fact that I have been dealing with this for 2 months now, They will not dispatch service due to the storm. So how do I get the service I am stuck paying for??? Buyer beware!!!

You did not say where you saw the cancellation fee for $380. If it was on your bank statement, call your bank and ask if you can dispute charges.some banks will let you, others will not.If it was on a credit card, call the card and dispute the charges and if the cc does accept the dispute, you may have to close the account or change the number to prevent DTV from reapplying the charge later.Go to eHow.com and read how others have done this paste/copy this:How to Cancel DirecTv Service & Stop, Avoid or Reverse Early Cancellation Fee

DirectV illegal credit card charges

Called DiectV to get install about 12/17/2010. Install scheduled for 12/20/2010. Called about 12/18/2010 and reduced service from Choice Xtra Package with 2 free receiver upgrades to just one HD receiver and 3 standard receivers. Was told, after about 90 minutes on the phone and being switched thru 4 different "service persons", to wait for the installer and make the changes then. So I waited for the installer. On 12/20/2010, the installer arrived and I explained what I wanted to do. He contacted the company and talked with them. Then he gave me the phone and I talked with 3 different "service representatives". After being switched the third time, I got someone who knew what to do. He canceled my installation and restarted a new installation. At this time I applied for the "advertised refer a friend package' with my brother's account number. It was accepted and my brother sent in an email to say I was his referral. The installer did the install. It seems DirectV can't get its schedules correct as they called me 3 times after that with new installation dates. Everything seemed to working well until I got my credit card bill dated 1/12/2011. Instead of the $21.32 it should have costed to get installed, they had billed my credit card 4 different transactions($121.63 total), only one of which I authorized for $10. When I called in to complain, I found out(90 minutes and 4 switches later) refer a friend rebate was not given. I decided to cancel and did 1/21/2011.
