DirecTV False Promises

When I signed up for DirecTV over the phone I told the sales lady that I wanted 2 HD/DVR's for free since I could get the same thing from Dish Network. She spoke to someone and then came back and said they could do that. I placed my order and paid for one additional DVR. Three times during my conversation I was told that if there were any problems with my order that I would be able to call back and they could play back the conversation because they were all recorded. I should have been suspicous by her even mentioning this. The technician showed up to install my dish and receivers and he only had one HD/DVR, one HD box, one DVR and two additional boxes which I also ordered. He got his supervisor on the phone and they told me that it was not possible to honor that order and that I was never promised that. I sent the technician away and called DirecTV back and requested that my conversation be replayed. I was told that could not be done without a subpoena. I have already cancelled my cable. I am now going to be without everything until I find a replacement or get cable turned back on. I want this fixed.

Oh I am such a sucker. We were living in a virtual forest and forced into cable as a provider, thus we had suffered through the Comcast billing increases and ended up paying what might have been a respectable car payment in the 90s before we recently moved to a new...

Here is the email for the public relations director at Directv, please voice your opinion: jlekstedt@directv.com

Below is an e-mail I sent to Miss Ekstedt voicing my opinion.

I recently read an article entitled: Time Warner, Fox dispute may cost customers more

In the article you were quoted as stating:

"Beginning Feb. 9, DirecTV will increase monthly prices about 4 percent, or $3 to $5, for most customers, according to an e-mail from spokeswoman Jade Ekstedt.

"The new pricing reflects the increasing cost of programming and the significant investments we've made to enhance our customers' viewing experience," Ekstedt wrote."

Let me voice my opinion to you. It is irresponsible as a company that Directv has chosen to raise monthly prices to customers. You go on to defend the increase stating it is "to enhance our customers' viewing experience".

Experiences can be both good and bad.....since dropping Versus from Directv my viewing experience is definately bad. With the service (or lack there of) that Directv is provinding I'm paying more for service that doesn't meet my needs?

I have a suggestion why don't you bring Verus back to the Directv lineup and pass the cost onto the customer (i.e. let the customer decide) - the current method Directv has chosen is alienating many loyal customers.

Direct TV is the Devil. Let's start this off by giving you a timeline. Note- I am in the Military and was being stationed outside the U.S….thus, Direct TV would not have service where I was moving to. I was to be exempt from any type of Early Termination Fee, just as...

We also cancelled our DTV service, due to a military PCS. Here we are, over 3 months past the date of cancellation and we are still battling to get the correct refund amount.

What DTV did what after we cancelled service, was they went and changed our promotional rates (taking away credits and causing a negative balance), because we did not meet the 2 year contact. Apparently DTV isn't aware of the Servicemember's Civil Relief Act!

We will be going to Navy Legal soon, for assistance...

The service was great with DTV, but this billing runaround we've been getting with DTV is just absolutely ridiculous!!! Never again will I go with DTV, unless I plan to transfer from home to home stateside...

Directv in New York, New York - Direct TV rip off artists and so petty.

In short, we had Direct TV for 6 years with no problems. We cancelled and returned the reciever and paid our final bill. SHortly later we recieved a bill for unseen and unpaid for films. We called costumer service and requested roof of the films. They first promised to provide the proof but weeks later we recieved only another bill. Then we called customer service again, and were told we could not be mailed the proof we requested. THe customer service was obnoxious and then we recieved a notice of collection and the collection agency was even worse over the phone. We paid the bill to avoid credit problems but we wish to pursue a complaint with the FCC and BBB and join a class action suit. ANy suggestions and any sign of hope that we can get our money back and destroy this company ?

I went on line to check my bank balance today, and found that Direct TV had taken over$714.00 out of my account. I called direct TV very pissed off and talked to Robert the supervisor.

I bought a house the middle of October and called to move my service. They could not install because the trees were to tall. I called in Novemer because they sent me a bill. Because I didn't specifically say cancel my service I am being charged for service I did not have and equipment the installer told me they would send boxes for if they wanted the equipment back.

I ask Robert how I was suppose to continue service, if I moved and they were unable to put up a dish, he said they can't cancel my service without me calling and saying cancel my service, even though I called in November and told them I had moved and they could not install a dish. I also found out from my bank that any time you pay on line, they do not need your permission to take what ever they want from your account, if they say you owe it.

What you need to do is file a complaint with your states attorney general. Explain the problem in great detail, then while on the AG's website for your state, copy and paste the select laws that apply to your problem that backs you up.

The at the end of the complaint, you only need to tell them what it is that you think will resolve the issue. Within a few weeks all should go better.

Directv in Cleveland, Ohio - Unable to get rebates that were promised

We have been trying to get our rebate since 12/29/09. We are referred to one place, then another. First, we got " sorry, systems error or permission denied -illegal parameter. Then we got invalid e mail address, then we got we are not even eligible for the rebates. WHY? The email system is horrible. I have been working on this for almost three weeks. I have been on the computer every day, called direct tv every other day trying to fix this problem and get the twenty-six dollar ($26.00) rebate. Does any one actually get the rebate?

Directv in Overland Park, Kansas - Direct TV scam

I got direct TV in October. The deal was 29.99 per month for over 120 channels. The bill came out the first month for over 60.00 and the customer service said that the rebates would kick in about 6 weeks. The next month I got a bill for the 29.99 because the rebates had kicked in. The past due amount was for 30.00 dollars from the 1st month because the rebate hadn't kicked in. I called customer service to have them remove the past due amount and they said that they would not remove it and I had to pay that because the rebate hadn't kicked in. They refuse to remove this amount and threatened to send it to the collections department. I have called and demanded them to disconnect the service. They now want to charge me a early termination fee of 249.00 what a scam this is. The Government needs to step in and stop these scams immediately.

Its not Dtv's fault that you moved. So why should they have to pay the cost.

You need to go after your landlord for the fee. The cost you dont feel you should have to pay just gets passed on to all the other customers.

Also, FYI, there is a law called "OTARD" that states a landloard cant refuse you to have a satelite dish. Mybe the state attorney general can help you look that up.

If you would have submitted the rebates online (befor install), they would have been instant on your first bill. You WILL still get 12 months of rebates.

Just now it will be months 2 thru 13. No one is out to scam you.

It cost Dtv about $1,200 to equip and install a new customer. That is why there is a early termanation fee.

I changed over from cable to Directv in Oct 2009 because the cable company would renew my deal for the same rate. Unfortunately, a month and a half after getting Directv, we found we had toxic black mold in our apartment and had to move quicklay as the landlord wouldn't do anything about it.

The new place I signed a lease with wouldnt allow the dish to be installed on the house. New landlord wrote a letter for me to that affect, and I had taken pictures of the black mold in the old place. I called and wrote Directv, letting them know these were circumstances beyond my control, and asked them to let me out of the 2 year contract. They won't budge AT ALL.

They just charged my bank account this morning for *early contract termination fee* of $445.00!!!!! I'm goping to pursue this with CT State's Attorney General. You're right...the government NEEDS to get involved somehow, and stop allowing these companies to do such things. Unreal.

I would never, ever EVER get Directv again.

And you can bet every single person I ever talk to will hear about my horrendous experience with this company. Even if I can cost Directv one, two, maybe 3 customers...I'll feel SOMEWHAT better.

Directv in Spokane, Washington - Rate increase in bad economy

You would think that wall street bankers are running direct TV. Now they are increasing there monthly service charge when 15 million americans are unemployeed and just trying to keep bills paid and beans on the table. When most companies are cutting prices for products or services, Direct tv is fliecing americans. I dislike the hassle of changing providers but dam it this has got to stop. Perhaps we should all cancel our services at the same time and do a little fliecing of our own. Seems to me that if our living profit margins are dropping due to a weak economy the profit loss should be the same accross the board.

yes you are right, the rates go up every year and the ones that have been with them are paying for all the perkes for all the new ones. one year for 29.99 ect.the ones that have been with them for years get nothing but a rise in price every year. plus they make billons every year how much money in enought.

Directv in Sterling Heights, Michigan - Add in Sunday Supliment

In Sunday Det. Free Press add you have NCIS actors pointing a gun at a man's head. With all the gun crime, this add is in VERY bad taste and appalling. Think before you place this kind on picture in an add. Direct tv, Direct killings. This is really not appropriate in America. There is enough violence as it is, do not add to it in your add for entertainmet. Young children see this kind of advertisement and think that it is okay to point guns at other's heads and kill them. You should never place this picture in any add for your service. Stop and think what you are doing to our nation!!!.

Directv in Melbourne Beach, Florida - Direct TV ripped me off

I just spent an hour and a half on the phone with Direct TV to no avail. I called and was put on hold for a half hour only to be hung up on. I called back and spoke with "Kally" #100250698 and asked to speak to a supervisor I then waited another forty five minutes to speak to "Mary" 100279842. I explained to Mary that I canceled my account on the 4th. of Jan. They told me that I would owe $60.00 and they would send a box to send the receiver back, I complied and sent the receiver back on the7th. of Jan. I got a bill for 425.52! I called back and again after an hour was told that there was a mistake and that I would be billed the $60.00. I checked my credit card account and they took 452.52 out of my account. I called again and spoke to Mary again and she said that the charge was now 312.52 I called the bank and disputed the charge. I want to go on record that Direct TV is a rip off . What can I do Now?
