Several Direct TV salespeople promised a $21 monthly discount. We mailed in the rebate, but they would not honor it because they said we went with the Spanish package. The sales people said the Spanish package also had the same discount/rebate offer. Then they said we...

Signed up for DirectTV in Dec 2009. Received all the discounts that were promised.

14 months into the 2-year contract, we are unable to receive about 40 of our normal channels. They are either washing out or it says "searching for satellite". We live in southern California where rain and snow are not an issue. This has been going on for about 2 months and only affects the main TV.

Our second TV receives the directTV signal fine on all channels. Direct wants $49. for a service call. I am hesitant to OK the service call for fear that a required repair part will cause my 2 year contract to be extended for an additional 2 years.

I would rather suffer the loss of the channels than be STUCK with directTV for an additional 2 years. Believe me, when the 2 years are up, I will return to DISH Network where at least they seem to be a more honest company.

I hope this comment helps other families avoid the frustration of having to deal with a company that obviously does not value it's customers and their satisfaction. If you are going to go with satellite TV,

GO WITH DISHNET!!!

Directv - Direct TV Sold Through Oregon Satellite

This company OREGON SATELLITE in Coos Bay, Oregon, an authorized dealer of Direct TV, installed our commercial account on 12/30.  The installer told me that he could not get through on his phone to activate the service, but would do it in the am. I called the company the next day in the afternoon because we still need activation and are opening soon for the first time.  The lady tells me that they have a short day because of the holiday and will not be able to activate until Monday.  They were sure wanted the $ when they installed, but still no service.  To add insult, the email address they provide is invalid!!  LAME!!

Directv in Cicero, Illinois - Took my $400.00 hd/tv reciever i paid for

We were with direct tv for well over 10 years - and when we could not continue the service they turn nasty - they claim the $400. receiver we purchased at best buy was a leased item and we had to return it to them or they would charge us another $400. and every time we had any upgrades to our service we started a new contract -(but we were never told or advised of) that is the last time we purchase anything without research I would never recommend or repurchase this service, beware, read every piece of paper they give you

Nicole, when you are done with your service, give me all of your equipment and get over it. :grin

Shadow_8, this is non-sense, we pay $300+monthly lease fee of $6 to get an HD DVR install and DTV claims that they will take that back when we end the contract. This is a big rip-off.... Your case is even worse.... the stuff you bought from Bestbuy and they said it is their property? Did they request to get your TV return to them as well?

Write a letter and complain.

Directv in Painesville, Ohio - Direct Tv

I am pissed off with direct tv. They recently took over $400 out of my account. The service is not in my name ,they said since i used my card to pay some of the bills they would take the money out of whatever card they had on file. keep in mind their are several other cards that i used to pay that bill but they took it out of my primary account and left me we negative $15 and said there is nothing they can do. Although on my statement the tranaction is pending and not yet been posted.

Christmas Day I awoke to find my Indiana Unemployment Debit account empty and showing a negative $246 balance. When I was finally able to find out what had happened the records showed Direct TV had plundered my account that day and had the balls to even charge me an extra $29 for not being able to steal the entire $646 they say I owed them over them not honoring their contract for their so called "special".

I had been charged twice what their $29.99 special cost and threatened to discontinue service. After repeatedly trying to get this straightened out and have my funds returned I was told they would do so only if I continued service with them(extortion?). I also now had to pay the $59.99 price for the next three months due to defaulting on the contract, isn't this what they had done? When reaching the Austin based firm that issues these required debit cards they said Direct TV was the only bunch that had been able to circumvent their customer safeguards and firewalls.

These thieving bastards at Direct TV have got this down to a science and should be stopped. The Austin firm also said they had been deluged with cases such as this by Direct TV.

As the Christmas purchases bounced running up an unbelievable amount of fees I now enter the New Year not only layed-off but financially destroyed. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Directv in Raleigh, North Carolina - Poor service and no help

I am never going to use or recommend Direct TV to anyone ever again. I have had nothing but bad experiences with these people. Out of countless calls to try and get my problems rectified, I only spoke with one customer service rep who was the least bit helpful and polite. Come to find out later unfortunately, that she outright lied to me. This company is a joke. I can't understand how they are still in business. I guess P T Barnum was right, there is a sucker born every minute. I just hope people will read these messages before they do business with Direct TV. It started with lies and ended with lies. Promises not kept and probably never intended to do so. It took them over 2 weeks to get my service started which should have been a clue as to what was to come. I told them originally that I would be moving to a new location in about 2-3 months and was told that I could move my service without a problem and no charges incurred....wrong. I canceled my service and had to pay the "contract" agreement for remaining months. It was a wash for the extra charges that were to be incurred to move my service to the new house. I just had the charges billed to my credit card but I will dispute the charges and delay this as long as possible. I only hope I can make them as miserable as they have made me. The only way to force these crooks to clean up their act is to hurt them financially. Please tell everyone you know to stay away from Direct TV.

Directv in Dayton, Ohio - Direct tv sucks

Big mistake switched from dish TV to direct TV. Scheduled three times before I finally got my installation.First time I took from work to sit at home until 5pm to call to find out I wasn't scheduled, second time took the afternoon off to sit and wait until I called at 5pm to find out the service person was sick and wouldn't be able to do the installation. Direct used my dish TV wiring but I got charged for wiring.everytime I called Direct TV I got the run around.Just waiting till my contract is up, I will be looking for a new provider.

DirectV gets installer to sign 2yr. contract w/customer

We decided to change to DirecTV when we moved and arranged to have the equipment installed. When the tech was finished installing equipment he ask me to sign that he had done so. I signed a paper titled "DirecTV Equipment Lease". Four days later I received my first bill(!) and read there that I had agreed to pay for services for two years. I called and was given the run-around of the century. I was repeatedly told I had been told (I was not) and then just passed around from one person to the next, having to repeat all info and the story over and over. I asked to be let out of the contract, to no avail. Since then I have spoken to many people who have had the same trouble with DirecTV and many more problems. I discovered that the company has thousands of complaints against them with the Better Business Bureau. This company is trouble and the service is not worth the trouble you will have. Stay clear and use Dish.

Directv in Columbus, Ohio - Just charged me $589.89 without notice!

I was under the impression that my 2 year contract was up. Apparently when they sent me a new receiver because my old one was broken, it renewed my contract an additional 2 years! I pretty much told them to go fly a kite and they just charged my debit card $589.39! I have since called Chase bank and reported the charge as fraud and they have put the money back and stated that this happens quite often with their customers who have had direct tv. This company really needs someone to step up and prosecute them for fraudulent business practices!

Google "Directv" and "class action". You will see that you are not alone. At least four States attorney general's are suing Directv for fraudulent and misleading practices including charging credit and debit cards without prior permission.
