I purchased a bundle of services that included DirectTV in 2007. It included a contract for 18 months and I signed it. The service was good; good channels, good reception, no problems. Then, about a year later, I had some roofing work done and the dish became...

Thank you skurno. Persistance did pay off.

I was successful getting my contract ended after writing to Ellen Filipiak at the above address you supplied. Be aware however that you must have a valid reason for getting out. More than a desire or financial difficulties will be needed. I don't think that persistance alone would have worked.

I did not talk to Ms. Filipiak, but rather an underling on the Customer Advocate Team, as they call it. I reached them by writing a letter describing the situation to her. Then, they contacted me by phone.

I had a strong case still it took a lot of fighting on my part. It seems DTV tries to *** out weak claims by making the process long and arduous. They are not about making it easy to get out of contracts even when they are clearly in the wrong. The old saying, "The customer is always right" is not the operating montra at DTV.

Also, it probably helps to have a good payment history with them in order to win points in the negatiations. Also, I maintained the position that I was happy with the service, technically, but I did not appreciate being lied to. They did admit there is a 'paper trail' of every contact including phone calls. The rep promised he would track down the person who lied to me and correct the problem.

I don't know what really goes on there but I have a feeling that salesman have numeric goals they must achieve and some will lie to get there; perhaps under threat of termination. That would explain a lot. One more thing, I was told that customers can't avoid a contract unless they purchace a receiver that has been activated in the past at least once. So if you are considering buying a receiver on ebay to avoid having to take a contract, be sure that receiver is not new; i.e., it has been activated at least once.

Then all you have to buy is the magnetic card from DTV which is about $20. Avoid DTV contracts like the plague.

Direct TV "hides" this address but I found it! Bombard Ms. Filipiak with your complaints! Maybe, just maybe, they will realize JUST HOW BAD their service is and make changes. They hire and train people to be TOTALLY INCOMPETENT and then tie to you exorbitant contracts when they fail to provide the type of service that is expected.

I live in Southfield, MI. In May 2010 I called Directtv to switch from Dish Network because of a promotional brochure $29 monthly, 3 months of HBO & Showtime, 1 DVR and a visa gift card for “switching” service that was sent to me.

I spoke with a rep who told me "No Problem" we can match the service and give you $150 visa for “switching” service. I advised I was paying $24.99 monthly for basic service with HBO & Showtime with 4 DVR boxes. They asked for my credit card for a one time billing. In “good faith” I gave it to them.

They didn't show when they were suppose to. When they did they spoke with my 17 year old and had him let them in. When I got home, there wasn't any instructions on how to use; and I had to call to find out how to get to my local news channel. There was no DVR's in any of my rooms.

I didn't have HBO or Showtime. Those were my first 2 breaches of my contract. The first two months I got a bill for $60 odd dollars. Which I called on and they made it impossible, I was told by a rep I had to go on line to get this "rebate" that was not disclosed to me when calling in order.

When it didn't work I wanted a rep, I was told I would be charged $20 a month for the rest of my contract for getting a rep to assist me with this problem. Fast forward I’ve had a couple of surgeries for a reoccurring tumor this year and it’s now December, I never “cancelled” my contract; I was indisposed. Direct TV “cancelled” my contract and WITHOUT AUTHORIZATION charged my Visa debit $600. The only reason I knew this is, I filed a Police Report on unauthorized charges that had been taken out of my account that has caused financial stress to my family because I couldn’t work at this point.

Now I can’t pay my light or gas bill and it is winter.

Is it legal for Direct TV to breach their contract and charge me in the process? I feel that this is a bait & switch tactic by their company, and a breach of promise.

Directv in Athens, Georgia - Direct TV and AT&T (Stole de customer's money)

I accepted a bid for a service package that included telephone, internet and television. Direct TV connected internally my call to AT & T who promised to install on my home phone and Internet. After many mistakes and having to spend six hours talking in the phone with AT & T customer services represents to solve all the problems they generated (a telephone line installed in my neighbor's house to my name, then a second line installed at home without respect my number and a internet service connected without the modem they promised me which started to charge when I could not use) I decided to cancel all orders with this company. When I asked Direct TV to cancel the order because my contact with them was looking for a company offering the service as a packet Direct TV loaded a fee for early cancellation and the answer was we don't care your problems with AT&T. And besides, without my permission charged this value to the credit card I had used to pay the first bill. Embarrassment of companies. They do not represent the American business model. People are thieves in our good faith.

Let me to share with you my latest "direct TV exceptional customer experience."

Today I received in the mail a copy with a highlighter where some third-level employee to highlight my three-year commitment to remain connected to the system they offered.

Nowhere this employee highlight the prominence obligations that although in some cases are not written acquire companies with its customers.

I just hope this kind of abuse carried out by mediocre employees; sometimes behind the perspective of decision makers serve future customers of these companies know the true feelings that move its business.

Thieves.

October 14,2009 I have received the same problem with this merger of AT&T and DirectTV. I went to AT&T for internet service and they approach me with a bundled package of services for all cellphones, houseline, internet, and directTV.at a great price, with rebates.

The DirectTV was immediately put in on Oct 16, and by the next week I have received 7 pieces of mail from DirectTV and two bills for amounts of $68.and $74. What??? This suppose to be 29.95!

Next AT&T call and tell me that they cannot switch my houseline service over that I owe a debt from 2006! WHAT????

So, I do not have the internet, the original reason I went to AT&T unless I pay this $105.00...

I DO NOT OWE this debt to AT&T! Furthermore, I have had two cellphone lines with AT&T and never received a bill for this said amount. So, I tell AT&T to cancel since they cannot honor their bundle pkg... that I will not be extorted into paying some fabricated charge!

I tell AT&T to cancel the DirectTV...

I was put through to DirectTV and they tell me that I have a 2 yr contract with them and that I cannot cancel and that I will have to pay them some $400+ for early cancellation! I did not obligate myself to DirectTV ==== AT&T obligated me!!!!Where is the Class Action Suite against this new concocted Corporation tyranny,I'm ready to sign up!

My directv was ok but they told me that my internet through AT&T will be up the same day as the directv. my husband stayed home and waited all day to find out that they're not coming.

the service will not be ready for another week!

Also gave us a promo price which does not exist!

Directv in Marietta, Georgia - Provide wrong equipment and service

Ordered the premier package for the NFL Sunday Ticket, 5 months free of all the channels and the DVR on 9/11 but what was installed 9/15 was everything but the DVR and Direct TV's response to my BBB report doesn't look like they are looking to resolve this issue. They want me to pay 176.09 to fix the mistake made by the sales rep to get me the right equipment to my home. But I refuse to pay for the Sales rep's mess up and I want my DVR for free like I ordered.

DIRECTV

Before you use DIRECTV do your REsearch, Check with BBB, FTC, FCC, and use the enternet. There are thousands of complaints with DIRECTV. Are all these people wrong? If you have been screwed my DIRECTV file complaints with BBB,FTC,FCC, and the AG in your state.Do NOT let them beat you. If you are thinking of using them DO NOT sign a 2 year contract,DO NOT use auto pay, DO NOT give them access to ANY of your bank or credit cards. Have them send you a paper bill and pay them yourself. Be prepared to deal with people (phone agents) who don,t speak english very good, are rude, they will lie,put you hold, hang up on you. DIRECTV has the worst service I,ve ever seen. Your bill will vary every month its never the same. I know this to be true because I was a DIRECTV customer ONCE never again!! But don,t take my word, RESEARCH!! RESEARCH!!RESEARCH!! I don,t think there any other company with as many complaints. Please find out for self before you committ . gypc

Nfl Sunday ticket is a scam. If you had Nfl sunday ticket last year and don't call them and tell them you did'nt want it this year you still have to pay for it this year.

It is a automatic renewal each year. Which should be considered a hidden scam.

I received Nfl ticket free with the purchase of Direct Tv last year and I just found out that I automatically had it this year without even knowing I was being charged for it untill last week and they said I could'nt cancel it because it was s automatic renewal unless you called and canceled it before this years season started. Direct Tv is a scam with very unprofessional support or service.
