Directv in Englewood, Colorado - Directtv stole money out of my account

I had Direct TV for 2 years and not once did I get what I paid for. I cancelled the service because I started receiving no service at all. After spending HOURS on the phone with Directtv after cancelling because I was not able to watch TV. Direct TV used a debit card(they stored card holder data)that I took off the account and stole $490.00 out of my account. DirectTV has said I do not owe this money but refuses to put back in my account. Every time I call it is always a differnt time span that they are going to but it back I have heard everything from 3 days to 8 weeks. the Money was taken out of my account in Jan 08, it is now April 08. ALSO, since cancelling directtv has called and asked what they could do to get our business back. ALL we orginally wanted was to watch the TV Service that we were paying for. We were laughed at and hung up on prior to cancelling because we had no receiption. WE NOW HAVE DISH AND SERVICE IS MUCH BETTER

Directv in San Diego, California - Direct TV and their fraudulant charges.

I purchased MLB ticket in 07', but didn't want it in 08'. Direct TV decided to charge me regardless on me not ordering the service. I called customer service and was placed on hold for about 25 minutes. The manager said her supervisor would call me within the next 2 business days regarding the situation. It has been two weeks now and still haven't received all call back/no messages. Horrible Customer Service Direct TV is also a rip off. They charge to much for services. Never, ever sign a contract with them. Big mistake on my part.

My wife subscribed for me to the DirectTV MLB package last year. I was not informed by DirectTV that the package would automatically be renewed this year.

I did not want renewal so I checked my March 2008 bill and it showed the MLB under "Add Sprts Subscription" but that an x was marked in the box for "remove." To satisfy myself, I checked a game on my receiver and could not gain access because it said the channel "was not purchased." I was surprised when I opened my April bill and the usual mid-month time to find that I was charged for another year of MLB. I immediately contacted customer relations and explained all of the above but the only response was that sports programming could not be changed once the season started. I have no need nor desire for the package and their "customer service" only repeats that I would have had to cancel prior to the start of the season. I never had an "opt out" notice.

It is suspicious to me that the customer alert to a charge is only made AFTER it is too late to change it. My plan is to discontinue all DirectTV service as soon as possible.

Directv in Santa Rosa, California - DirectTv customer service sucks!

DirecTV gave made a clerical error and automatically withdrew $215 from my checking account. I spent an hour and a half being bounced from customer service clerk to customer service clerk. Each telling me they would be able to fix the problem. No one could refund the money. Long story short 3 1/2 weeks later, I still have no refund and no compensation for the time I spent dealing with them or the incompetency of their staff. They all just brush me off and say "so sorry".They continue to push me off on another "resolution specialist". And it is more expensive for me to get out of my contract and find alt. TV service than to stay. And they know that.

DO NOT GET DIRECT TV SERVICE!! You will regret it.

The reception is horrible (when you actually have service) and the customer service is even worse. I have problems with my service every other month and getting the issue resolved takes weeks. One day I stopped getting my HD channels, this was after they sent a software upgrade. They charged me $80 for a technician to come out.

A month later, I stopped getting local channels, after being on the phone for 2 hours trouble-shooting the issue, it was finally resolved. Two months later, one receiver went out, then another month passed, and my second receiver went dead. After paying another $80 for a technician to come out, the problem still didn't get resolved. I spent a total of 5 hours on the phone trying to diagnose the problem, and nothing.

Supervisors at direct tv do not waive the technician fees (even when they don't fix anything), nor do they compensate you for your troubles in any way.

I have cancelled my service and switched to Comcast. Save yourself the headache and frustration, go with another service even if it's more expensive.

DirecTV Equipment

DirecTV has changed their policy regarding equipment that a customer purchases from a retailer - DirecTV now considers all equipment, no matter how acquired, to be "leased" equipment. I found this out when I replaced a receiver that I purchased from Best Buy one year ago with a new HD DVR that I purchased from another retailer. DirecTV insisted that I send the replaced receiver to them as it was leased equipment and not owned by me or they would charge me up to $470 for the receiver, that the purchase price I paid was in effect a "lease fee". No one at Best Buy or the other retailer informed me of this when I purchased either of the receivers; neither did DirectTV when I connected the receivers. I have filed a complaint with the Texas Attorney General and am now waiting for the results of their investigation. Stay away from DirecTV - they are now in business to rip off consumers.

What happened with this? I had the same exact thing happen to me.

I was also told because we upgraded to an HD DVR, we were in a 24 month contract. INSANE!

On 4/7/08, I called DIRECTV to cancel my account and much to my surprise, I was told that I was still under contract. The rep stated that if I cancelled my account, a cancellation fee would apply. I was told that my contract was extended for 18 months, starting last...

It should be very clear from the sheer number of posts that Direct tv is an unethical poorly run organization. Fraud is the normal way this company conducts business.

Still a problem in 2015 -really wish I had read this before signing up. We spent DAYS calling around trying to set up service for our new house.

We have two kids, two jobs each, plus we're full time students so finding time to make a simple phone call is difficult. After being left on hold for an hour twice with comcast before even speaking to a rep and being hung up on by verizon, we finally called DirecTV. They were awesome! They answered the phone within minutes and told us about this great bundle where we'd pay right around $80 total for TV from them, and internet and phone from Verizon.

The rep walked us through set up for DTV then transferred us over to the "bundles dept" who got us all set up with verizon. From my understanding, this was still a DTV rep but working with Verizon services. We called on a Friday, DTV set up the service by Monday. Verizon had us set up by the following Friday.

Our internet didn't work (during finals week!). Verizon sent a tech out and our phone jacks were apparently not compatible with verizon service except one. The tech said he can fix the jacks but verizon will charge. He advised me to just stick with the one jack if I was okay with that.

I was grateful that he told me that. I told him that's what I'd do. He plugged my modem and phone into the jack and left. Verizon charged me over $100 for "service" to the phone jacks!

On top of that, I was charged over $150 for the first two months. I called Verizon and DirecTV. DirecTV told me it was for installation, service, and setup fees and that by the third bill, we'd be paying the $80 for both services. Verizon said the bill would be higher until equipment was paid off then it should return to normal after 2 or 3 months.

After 4 months of paying over $150, we called DirecTV back. They had no record of us having a bundle with Verizon. We called Verizon, they told us they don't have a record of a bundle but they can set one up for us. The price would be $5 less than our usual $160-$170 bill.

I was furious. They told us to give DTV a call and see if we can work something out with them. A DirecTV supervisor called me a liar, told me he "can't help me," and said if I wanted to cancel, "we can start to discuss the approximately $500 in fees" i'd incur from breach of contract - A contract I've never signed. Everything was verbal.

When I told them to check the recorded phone call, the supervisor said he didn't have access to it. I told him to put me on with somebody who did and he disconnected the call.

I am FED UP with DirecTV. Between paying almost DOUBLE what I was told I'd pay, having both companies blame each other, and being called a liar and told I'm SOL by a DTV representative, I'm so ready to move on.

They were great setting up but when it comes to issues with service or billing, they are HORRIBLE! This isn't just an "Oversight" if it's happening to all of these people.

Directv in New Orleans, Louisiana - Direct TV Billing Errors

If the average citizen did what Direct TV does monthly, they would be facing 5-15 years in jail for theft. Direct TV billed me for a non-existant account. I moved, and someone in billing made an error in switching the account. They added an account instead of transferring. This resulted in my being double billled for services. After months of trying to get it straight, not receiving the $161.00 credit that was due me, and being turned over to collections for "non-payment", I had enough. I cancelled my service. Thereafter, I was assessed a cancellation fee. Talk about insult to injury!
