You fell for a common scam. When you "upgraded" you did, indeed change the terms of your original contract. The old saying "if it looks too good to be true......." applies.

Directv in Port Orange, Florida - I have been trying to return my equipment for over 2 years

I have been trying to return my directv equipment for 2 years after canceling service. Every time I call they say a box is being sent out to ship the equipment in. After 2 years and 3 new addresses I still have the directv equipment and now it is starting to effect my credit score. I have asked repeatedly for an address to send the equipment to and customer service says the only way to send it back is in the box that they send to you. THE BOX THAT NEVER SHOWS UP IN THE MAIL!!! At this point I am getting ready to hire a lawyer and I would like to reach out to anyone else who has experienced this problem. I don't even know where to start I am so frustrated. I have literally been in tears for the last hour and a half. We had a service technician come out due to having no picture picture cutting out and freezing issues. The technician was wonderful he did everything you could for us two things were the cause. Number one the satellite dish was installed and a part of the roof that they're not supposed to install on so he couldn't physically get up to make any adjustments on the dish because he said it was against company policy. Second issue when he could get within range of the dish he said our tree line grew up across the freeway and so we no longer have line of sight. He stated that he was going to make that documentation and close out the service call since there was nothing that he could do and that we would no longer be in a DirecTV contract. Shortly after that I lost my job and times were a bit hard so I did have a past due bill. DirecTV sent me out a box to send my equipment back which I which I did. Saturday September 10th DirecTV withdrew $879 from my checking account. This was for an early termination fee unreturned equipment and my past due bill. I spent 2 hours on the phone arguing that we didn't have a fee and then I return the equipment. The customer service representative said that I was lying about the service call but there was no service call as a matter of fact the service call for that day was closed out meaning there was no service call after 45 minutes of arguing she finally look at the note from that close out service call and saw that he was in fact here and we did not have line of sight and we were no longer in a contract. After I held for 20 minutes for a manager to come on the line the call disconnected. After calling back and sitting again for 45 minutes to an hour going through this whole scario with somebody else, they would only credit back the equipment and the early termination fee. Keep in mind this is after a phone call from two weeks prior where I told them they are not to charge anything to that credit card and supposedly these calls are recorded but as a customer I'm not entitled to that recording. So bottom line was everything was processed in 72 hours and by Monday afternoon I should have my money back in my account. Come Monday morning I checked the bank the money was not there but my transactions from Friday came through and I have totaled $210 and bounced check and overdraft fees I am now negative $500 in my checking account. I'm a single mom that was everything I had once the bills went through it would have been left with $150 for 2 weeks to take care of the boys and I but that doesn't matter to DirecTV yes they admitted fault for wrongfully taking money but they do not refund for fees charged by the financial institution. After this phone call that lasted about an hour I was informed that they don't do any processing over the weekend and then it would process Monday and I would see the money in my account Thursday guess what today's Thursday. They refunded the money for the equipment but the other $300 is still quote processing and quote could be 7 to 10 days. I have been a customer with DirecTV back to the early 2000s and they would do anything they could to keep you as a customer but as soon as things go a little sideways they drop you like a bad habit and you no longer matter yes they made an error yes it financially screwed you yes you spent the last 2 hours and tears but I'm sorry that's not our problem. Directv - Getting direct tv lowered my credit score

I am so pissed. I've had att services forever, never a late payment. I signed up for direct tv and it was a hit on my credit report lowering my score by 16 points!!!! I'm buying a house and trying to get the lowest mortgage rate. Thanks direct tv. I so wish I never signed up for this. Nobody ever disclosed this would happen. Now you want me to give you at least 100 words or you wont publish my review, but I can't use foul language, what the (*#%&*@Q#^*$@) do you want me to say. Please fix my credit report that was in the 800's, you never did this when I signed up for my phones or my other tv services

Directv in Troy, New York - Strengths: screwing customer/ weaknesses: everything else

Not only were we very patient about the reception chronically freezing and/ or losing satellite communication, when we called to have the problem resolved the "agents" were so unhelpful and uncaring. After we had technicians in our home 3 or 4 times the reception issue seems to be resolved but the dvr does not work properly and the incoming caller id is unavailable. My husband is visually impaired and relied on that feature to try and identify wanted or unwanted calls. So I, of course, called to try and remedy this situation only to be told that to downgrade the receiver (get back the one that could be hooked up to the phone) would cost us $119.00. If I want to break the contract it will cost me $20.00 per remaining months. What about their contract to me? Wasn't Direct TV supposed to deliver a working product to me? Oh, and let us not forget that the price after a year increased over $50.00 a month! Mostly though, the absolute worst experience one can look forward to is the rude and condescending conversations during your many complaints to Direct TV. Once this contract has expired, we will immediately change providers.

Details
Horrible. Don't plan on watching tv or be able to get on the Internet. Satellite always goes out and so does the Internet. Even tried to pay the bill on the phone today using the automated service and the *** automated machine could even understand it when I typed in my credit card 5 times using touch keypad. Waste of money and horrible service.

Never got the $200 that I was promised for Combined service with AT&T and now on September 9th DirecTV disconnected my service claiming non-payment of $190 bill when called the admit that they did receive the $92 that I paid August 18th they wouldn't turn my TV back on until I paid another $92 and then they demanded a commitment to pay the balance which I refused I've been unable to reach them or AT&T on the telephone for 2 days this is horrible service I think they jacked everybody over the Labor Day weekend and then disconnected us all

DVR receiver will not come on. Called Directv and was promised they would overnight a new DVR receiver box that very day. It's now been 3 days and several phone calls later. They are placing the blame on fedex. Gave me the tracking number and told me I would have to contact fedex???? I pay a lot for this service every month on time and then spend all of this time on the phone with them. This is crazy. When I first got directv it was not owned by at&t.....hmmm, wonder if that has anything to do with the poor, poor customer service. Seriously thinking of droping directv. Would not reccommend to anyone.
