Cancellation Fee

If you move to another location where DirecTV is not available the contract is null and void and the cancellation fee does not apply as per the signed agreement. I moved to a location that does not have DirecTV, The technicians came out and were unable to set up service. I called DirecTV to tell them. Technicians did not pass information to whom ever was responsible for canceling account. Called DirecTV to inform them of the situation, over an hour on the phone, a manager told me that he would take cancellation fee off my account. Two months later call from collection agency....They wanted cancellation fee that was sold to collections. Called DirecTV back told them situation. Now an email from DirecTV.... "I have reviewed your account and see that we were not able to get a line of sight due to landlord restrictions, (I DONT HAVE LANDLORD RESTRICTIONS) because the minimum programming requirements, DIRECTV would be unable to honor your request to waive the cancellation fee. We have reviewed the information you provided and we have found that your account reflects the correct amount due." Does anyone know what "minimum programming requirements" are? This company will face Billing fraud charges sometime in my lifetime. This is not ethical and not Legal. Its puts you in a tough place, have an attorney deal with this and it costs more than the $300 cancellation fee.

Direct tv sucks ***

After being a loyal customer to direct tv for 6 years i scheduled a appt to have a HD receiver installed. After waiting for 4 hours the fool never showed or called. When I called to inquire why they didnt show the *** in their CS dept. told me he didnt have time to deal with my problem. So i asked to transfer me to the cancellation dept. So some *** named Kevin tried to *** me off with a 50 dollar credit. Im paying 109 dollars a month for their *** service. Bottom line is Direct TV sucks ***. What a group of unprofessioal pieces of ***. I cancelled my service and went with Dish Network which saves me 51 dollars a month for a bigger package. Then they called me 4 more times to appologise and keep our service. No Way. Do yourself a favor and switch to a different co. These people are clueless as to what customer service is and the people in their CS dept are a bunch of untrained ***

Pay for someone elses bill or no Direct TV

I recently called to have direct TV installed in my home. I have been in the middle east for approximatly 6yrs and I am also divorced.

My ex wife was allowed to stay in my home for a period of time after the divorce by the courts and I could not go to my own home during this period. My ex wife had direct TV installed at the house where she lived and it was in her name only. When the time came for her to leave she left and she did not pay for her direct TV bill..Who cares..Well you better if anyone else has lived in your house and did not pay there bill, direct TV will not install service there until the bill is paid.Weather it is your bill or not. This was as per the Manager John 57534 at the Operations department in South Carolina RSH department.

So in essence if anyone rents your property or has had sevices there and did not pay for the bill. If you move in and want services you will need to pay for it or you might want to take your services to dish network or go ahead and get a cable provider because this is direct TV policy according to Direct TV workers.

This is the worst service I have ever had from Direct TV..Why should I pay for anyone elses bill which is not in my name and I did not sign for anything..They are hijacking you into getting there money and they can care less about the customer. Anything else Direct TV is lying..

incorrect, the reason you are not allowed to have the services is because she lived there while the services were running. Both of yall enjoyed the service, so now that she is gone it would need to be paid.

Also, you were married at the time of service as well . I hope this helps.

i would take her to small claims court. you have proof she did not pay her bill.

get it in writing from direct tv that you cannot get dish svs until it is paid. force her to pay it.

Directv and no Fox channel.

We are unable to watch the playoff games on FOX. There is no reason the consumer should have to pay for the channels while they negotiate. These stations should be available. There is no excuse when we pay our bill. There is no discount or compensation for this interruption. The company which is directv should offer some type of compensation until the matter is resolved. Instead when you call them they blame the local station for the black out and Directv does not take any responibilty for the problem we as consumers are stuck with. Please reconsider doing something in return for your customers.

DirectTV shady practices.

The DirectTV tech supervisor came to inspect DirecTV service and removed Comcast equipment without my permission and no Work Order was provided or work approval signed by June Conner, the home owner. We , Gary Conner (the subscriber 239-784-****) and June Conner (the Home owner 239-784-****) Consider this a criminal act and will seek legal council if restitution is not made in a timely fashion. Please consider removal of all DirecTV equipment to 192 Elmwood Lane , Naples Florida 34112. The former owner of my home had service with Comcast. I did not opt to use Comcast due to the fact that I had a contract with DirectTV .

Spanish subtitles on chanel 5

Spanish subtitles appear on Chanel 5 during NFL football games but not on any other channel or during any other shows or sports events. The subtitles do not display on the commercials advertisements during the football games which the subtitles are being displayed.. They also appear across the top the TV screen obstructing the view of the game. The text is large and in white lettering. I have tried everything I know to remove these subtitles and have been unsuccessful. I have requested assistance from Direct TV and have been ignored. How do I remove these subtitles from NFL football games?

Spanish month, September 15 - October 15, the network is trying to garner more hispanic fans (google it). These are from the network, you can't get rid of them. I run a bar in Toronto, Canada, and the game is televised on TSN with a feed from NBC, both channels (two n's) have the subtitles.

Direct tv top in service??? what a joke

I recently moved I called to set it up and explained I needed to have the dish mounted on a pole I was told my move was free bc I was a valued customer...untill the technician came and told me I needed to pay him 80 dollars. I called and told them I hadn't been told any of that I had to ask for a manager 5 times before they let me talk to one who then told me that they required to tell me what's covered in the free and the extra work isn't I told them no one said any of that she pretty much told me she didn't care it was nt her problem and wouldn't help me she also didn't care that I had to ask 5 times for a manger her response was I wasn't available but I am now...#1 in customer service you must be kidding

VERY BAD FIRST IMPRESSION....

Nothing but problems from the start. First, i was referred by a friend so I contacted direct tv to name my referral so we would both received the advertised $100. The first call I was told I needed to call back after the install of the services. The second call after installation, they tell me I was supposed to call before install and there was no record of me calling the first time. BIG REFERRAL SCAM!!! After receiving my first bill I see 2 charges to receivers. The first charge was credited but the second was not. To clarify, when I signed up I received a promo with 2 free receivers or so I thought. After talking to direct tv, they tell me I received 2 receivers for free but there is a $6.00 service charge for the 2nd receiver. Funny how they just happened to leave this part out. "2 free receivers" actually ended up being 1 with an additional $6.00 charge for the second. This is just 1 month into my service. Whats next Direct TV?

Direct Tv are liars and the basic channels suck!! I never got my rebate which I asked about with every bill (at 3 months it was too late to enter a rebate).

They turn your tv channels off in the middle of a "free" weekend preview, my bill has increased over the yr. contract, they want me to pay $49 for them to come cked their outside dish that popped when lightening struck outside my house,(mother nature isnt my fault),So, Im paying 72$ a month for basic channels with not much more than info commercials.RIP OFFS!!

Used cancelled debit card to retrieve funds

After cancelling cable services with direct tv, the company used a debit card that had been cancelled to retrieve funds from my account. I went to my local branch to dispute the claim but the bank was unaware that the debit card used by direct tv had been cancelled.

As a customer of this particular bank I was very upset because I believed that the debit card was no longer valid and no purchases or charges could be taken from my account. The bank actually protested that the charges were actually acquired with the new debit card that i had.

This is what happened. Direct tv was able to use my old debit card number to get the new debit card number. In other words, the old debit card transferred to the new debit card. I was not enrolled in the automated payment plan with direct tv but I used my debit card to make payments everymonth on their website. Direct tv took the debit card number and used it to withdraw money from my account. It still does not make any sense to me that they should be able to do this but this is what happened

The amount taken was $468 plus $36 overdraft fees. I am on a fixed income and having this amount of money taken from my account would surely be a stressful burden to me.

The bank has assured me that there will be an investigation into the issue and if fraud can be proven my money will be reimbursed. In the meantime, I have to wait 7 to 10 days before I know their decision.

Please, whoever read this post, do not use direct tv as your cable provider. No, I did not thoroughly read their agreement but the agreement has a loop hole for me. The agreement says, "We reserve the right to charge the debit or credit card that you have on file with us." The loop hole is the debit card they used to charge my account had been cancelled and they should not have been able to use the debit card number.

I was told by the bank that when I cancelled my debit card, I did not close it out. Excuse me, but I assumed that once you cancel a debit or credit card and report it lost or stolen, that this would cancel any charges attempted to be made to my account.

I am now waiting for the charges to be reversed.

I would think the bank would be at fault for letting a charge go through on a cancelled card.The bank is therefore investigating its's self so don't be surprised if they find in their own favor. I'd file a complaint with the BBB(online) against the bank and I'd also ask the help of your local "troubleshoother" with a local tv station or newspaper. I believe the BBB will answer and help you with your complaint against the bank but they do not answer complaints against DTV because there are so many of them

The money that was taken from my account were cancellation fees which I was not informed of. I paid my bill every month and made sure that I did not owe for cable services.

While I understand your pissed about them charging you on a way they really shouldn't be able to, and I think the bank had alot of blame for that, can you really be pissed because you had to pay for your service you had received and not just cheat a company put of it by canceling your card? Sorry but to me your complaint doesn't hold that much weight unless you have done legitimate reason that you should not have paid your bill in the first place. Just my personal opinion.

Direct TV salesmen lying and misleading potential customers

We are looking for a more economical media company (currently have phone/internet/cable bundled) as costs have steadily increased and our income has decreased. I have seen numerous ads for Direct TV, so I thought I'd find out more about it. I spent all day dealing with this disaster of a company yesterday. I have made 8 phone calls so far. 4 or 5 of them were answered by "salesmen" out of the country. The first person would not let me get off the phone without agreeing to purchase services, the second person kept saying he had found other rebates on his "monitor" that I was eligible for and had the price down to a very affordable rate. He would only "hold" those with a $1 charge on a credit card and said he would send me an e-mail verifying what he discussed with me. The e-mail arrived and did not contain a single thing he had promised me. I attempted to call the number to decline my order and was diverted to another out-of-country salesman. After a very frustrating conversation, I tried to call another number and was finally connected to someone in the USA. The person I spoke with apologized and said I had received false promises and he "fixed" the package offered and said he would send an e-mail with the corrected details (he even gave me his employee ID number... wow). The e-mail arrived and was only a customer agreement... no mention of the "deal" I was promised or any breakdown of cost whatsoever. I attempted to call him back and was again diverted to a call center out of the country. I gave up and decided to try again this morning. My first call again went out-of-country, so I called again and it was answered in Miami, FL. This time I was "smart" and asked to speak to a supervisor. The salesman refused. I hung up and decided I would try customer service to resolve my horrendous experience. I saw this site and tried the number listed for Direct TV customer service... nobody answered. So here I am COMPLETELY frustrated and frankly disgusted at this point. What about the old "the customer is always right" or making SOME attempt at customer service? Has anyone else had this problem or have any suggestions?

Thank you SO much for this review. I've had just terrible problems with Charter Cable, bundled, and got an ad in the mail for DirecTv.

After reading what--and very many others--have said, I'm going to run in the other direction. At least Charter gets someone out withing 24 hours.

I believe you only have 24 hrs to cancel service with DTV.They have your credit card#

You might try getting in touch with your cc and ask them not to accept any charges from DTV and send you an email for proof.Your CC may do this but don't depend on it. If DTV places charges on your card you can dispute the charges and wait till cc does its investigation and charges maybe reapplied or you can close this account real quick before DTV puts charges on it.I wish I had a clear cut answer for you to do but there is none.

This sounds like a new scam from DTV diverting your call out of the country so you cannot stop the order before the 24 hr time limit is up.

The charges could be pretty high usually over $400 for early cancellation fees + other charges they may apply. I wish you luck

I have directv no longer need directv because I am moving away call directv to pick up there equipment and they say I can keep the equipment and I have to pay for it ask to speak to the manager and they say the manager is busy they were very rude the worst company ever the staff is rude they do not tell people there policy , anyone who decide to get directv think twice the worst company ever.directv send my name to collection agency and i told the collection dept I offer to send the cablebox back and i told them directtv does not want it back and directv say i have to pay for it the collection agency say what they say to me is crazy and i should call and talk to someone else i call to talk to the manager and they told me the manager is busy .direct tv do not tell people there policy worst company every

You need to call DTV and ask for a shipping label to return their box.DTV should send you labels from FedEx.When they send you the labels call and have FedEx pick up the equipment and be sure to get a tracking # from FedEx to prove that DTV gets their box back.You are right,they are the worst company ever!

Retracted Offer

I noticed DirecTV was cleverly using the NFL lockout to lure new customers by offering NFL Sunday ticket for no charge, so I contacted them on July 24, 2011 to check if this offer could be extended to existing customers. Tracy offered Sunday Ticket free for the 2011-12 season if I upgraded to the Premier package. She offered Premier at Choice Ultimate pricing for 3 months. After 3 months, I would receive partial discounts. After 6 months, the discounts would expire. The offer sounded too good to be true, so I reviewed it with Tracy several times and recorded the details in a Word Document. The NFL lockout ended on July 25 and all was well. I didn't think twice until my recent bill reflected a $53.99 charge for NFL Sunday Ticket. I contacted Mark on September 3 & he referred me to his supervisor, Jennifer. According to Jennifer, Tracy's offer was not valid & she offered some compensatory discounts. I invited Jennifer to review my recorded conversation with Tracy to verify the original offer. I explained that I had no intention of upgrading to Premier on July 24. My only motivation to upgrade was Tracy's offer of free NFL Sunday Ticket. Jennifer seemed to understand this logic & agreed to notify her manager. I didn't hear from her manager, so I took the matter to the Better Business Bureau. The Better Business Bureau's action was immediate and impressive. DirecTV responded with a "clarification" that Tracy had offered NFL Sunday Ticket-To-Go at no charge, rather than the NFL Sunday Ticket. This is an insult to my intelligence, as I would have never upgraded to Premier for such a menial token. It is NOT open for debate that Tracy offered NFL Sunday Ticket for no charge. DirecTV is well aware from the recorded conversation that I reviewed this offer with Tracy several times. The bottom line is: Tracy offered a deal she was not authorized to make. The respectable action would have been for DirecTV to honor this deal and they would have never heard from me again. On the other hand, I can understand why they chose to take the low road. If I told other existing customers about my deal, they would expect similar offers. The question is whether the couple hundred dollars they took from me is worth the negative feedback. If they lose one potential customer from my experience, we have both lost. I'm a displaced NFL fan living well out of my team's home market, so DirecTV NFL Sunday Ticket is my only option. If you are not a rabid NFL fan and are debating between Dish Network and DirecTV, I would highly recommend Dish Network. I've been a customer of both and there is no discernable difference in quality, selection and service. Dish Network packages are approximately $10 cheaper per month and this adds up to significant savings in the long run.

Same thing here. The commercial says "NFL Sunday Ticket is NOW FREE." It doesn't say free to new customers, or free now if you order Sunday ticket in the next 10 minutes, or something like that.

When I saw the charge on my bill, I called, and said the commercial was very misleading. I am paying for something that they are advertising is free. They agreed to give my Sunday ticket to go, like I want to watch football on my smart phone instead of my big screen, and would refund my $20 per month.

Let's see if that happens. Too bad, too, because other than that, I love Directv.

Was able to stream live news but now not.

set-up an account to steam live news to my computer.It was working fine for awhile but now an error is shown saying server has not sent info and to contact server.After calling direct tv to trouble shoot ,they could not find a reason why i was not getting a feed.They said they would make a note of it but it has been weeks and the problem has not been corrected.I would at least like an update assuring me that you are working on the problem.Thank you for your time and i hope to hear from you soon that the problem has been resolved.

Directv doesn't care about existing customers

Directv will not give existing customers specials they just want new customers and screw the rest. the run thank you specials that you cannot get to. They will not give any kind of discounts to good paying long time customers. They suck i will change soon. i have sent emails and have asked them over the phone for any kind of discount. they say they do not care about the existing customers to give us discounts. i hav told them I will go to another company and they don't care. They totally SUCK as a business. They do not care if they lose existing customers who pay on time every month.

I agree have been a dtv loyal customer for 9 years my bill keeps going up my equipment is ancient and outdated. Cannot upgrade to the new special deals out there with the new high speed equipment or even add a third tv without costing even more...new customers pay 1/2 of my cost for twice as much :(

I had been with DirecTV for 10+ years. My receiver dies so they graciously sent me a new one.

They did not tell me, however, that a new receiver came with a new 1 year agreement from the date of receipt. So, when I cancelled my service because I cannot afford it, they billed me for $460!!! How am I supposed to pay this when I could not afford the high monthly TV fees to begin with? I call them to dispute and they refused to remove the charge because their "notes" on the account state I was made aware of the new agreement.

What BS...of course they are going to say that to get their fees! STAY AWAY NEW CUSTOMERS!!

We were customers more than a dozen years. All we needed was equipment that worked well with the newer HD TV's we have.

Direct TV would NOT provide it without charging SEVERAL HUNDRED DOLLARS yet they offered it to "new" customers for free. We tried the last three years to get updated equipment so we could STAY with them. Loyalty used to mean something. Last year we finally said CANCEL.

A day later, they called to offer us some concessions. Keep in mind if we WANTED those extra channels, we'd have had them. They put them on for several months, but the hitch is if you don't call to cancel them, they CHARGE you for them. AND, no breaks on equipment.

Here we are another year later with three new TVs. We tried again. NOPE! They were willing to charge us over 500.00 for just ONE piece of equipment, and we needed three!

We officially canceled. I have ATT installed now. I did NOT want to go to ATT due to their customer service.

(Like their products though.) All that said, I'm DISAPPOINTED that loyalty to Direct TV (not to mention we have spent at least 10,000 keeping their service over a long period of time) means NOTHING to them.

BTW, I got a computer generated "we tried to call you" email today. I had gone to their "office of the president" site to let them know I was not pleased, and honestly, the email today asking me to call them, well, it's just ***!

I have been a customer for 4 years and never been late with a payment. They are offering new customers "whole home DVR service" free.

I called to get it and they want to charge me $314.99 and that is with a $50 discount! The only way to play the pay TV game is to switch providers every 2 years or whatever your contract time is.

You would think that they would want to keep good long time customers but they do not care ... unbelievable!

It's not just the specials offered to new customers. I have complained about the specials.

I did not get the "new customer price", but I did get a one time flat credit for over $200.00. The year before they knocked off $10.00 per month credit. So not everone is getting the same price for service. I've been a customer for over 6 years.

This should be treated like a utility company. Same price for everyone with rate increases along the way. Not who we can screw for the most money!

They are not sending up new Satellites because they are going broke! They need to be regulated like the other utilities!

Don't you love it that Directv has cut 25 channels (claims it's a dispute with Viacom) and doesn't give you a credit because you're not getting the service you signed up for? I frankly don't care about the spat between the two, I am getting shoddy service.

I try to call their customer service number and all I get is options to call a provider who provides those services, not an option to cancel. Worst customer service ever.

I agree with all comments! direct tv doesn't care about current, long time customers when it comes to specials.

I went throught a similar situation with them when they offered the sports package to new customers free!!! They would let me have it. Other programs at lower rates than I have even...now I just saw an advertisement for starz and another movie chanel for a dollar. didn't catch all the particulars, went on line, didn't find anything and can't get into my account now either, locked out, to call customer service......I know what I'll get there!!!

by the way for reciever problems or replacements, remember you are paying "rent" on those boxes each month, technically, they are responsible for repairs or replacement at no cost to the customer...........its thier equipment!!! Direct TV is overly rated and I too, am looking into other choices.

yes, dtv really does lie, cheat and steal. I have had dish network for 2 years and 3 months. but since my two yr contract is up, im on a month to month. i am getting ready to move into a larger home on feb 4th and even tho i like dish and have never in 2 years had any problems with them, i played it safe and reported my credit card lost, THEN i plan on calling and canceling next week.

i just dont want to take any chances. i got my new credit card via fedex. i cant afford to have large sums of money just taken out like that. i havent heard about dish doing that but dtv is famous for it--infamous i might say.
