Direct TV - terrible customer service!!!

November 10, 2011 - 10:30 am - Do not use direct tv!!! Customer service is terrible! Nothing like being on hold for 30 minutes and have someone treat you like an *** and act like YOU are wasting THEIR time when you're the one offering them money! Thanks a lot supervisor Erica (learn some manners!!)I called to find out about switching over to their service from our current cable provider since we are moving this week, and the service representative refused to give many information about their average rates beyond what was listed on their promotional offer unless I gave him all of my personal imformation - including my SSN!! - I called several other companies this morning as well and none of them had a problem with telling me about their services without my social security number (such as dish network)and they provided me with an overall much more pleasant experience as well. I'd say, even if it costs a little bit extra, go with dish network over direct tv for the customer service alone! (but based on the imfo I found on the web, it doesn't seem that direct tv is any cheaper! in fact, with the installation fees it looks like they actually cost more!!!) I will never ever recommend anyway sign a contract with direct tv.

Illegal, maybe. Unethical, yes.

My husband and I split in July of this year, after which I guess he decided not to pay for or return equipment to DirecTV. Because my card was the last used to make a payment in MAY, they have charged me for all past due balances, totaling over $600 at this point. My name has never been on the account, even when we were married, and his name is not on my bank account. However, because I paid with my card, I gave them "permission" to use it at their discretion at any time in the future. It's day 8 of their "7 to 10 days" to have my money refunded, nothing yet. Also, because of this debaucle, and the fact that I'm not real keen on this happening again, I have to close my account and open a new one. Because of THEIR unethical practice. Thank you, DirecTV, for making my holidays a nightmare. I will never, ever use your service again and am telling everyone I know (and even those I don't, as evidenced by this rant), to steer clear of ever doing business with you.

Summary:you got divorced, threw him out. Bills are all still in his name, so YOU'RE not paying them. You forgot DirecTV had your CC inf, they called in their debt. Way to post that you're defrauding companies and intentionally trying to ruin the ex's credit. Hope there's other proof of it in divorce court c u n t

Doesn't sound illegal or unethical. You voluntarily gave them a credit card to use to pay against your account. They are well within their rights to collect all monies owed.

Index color

Changing the index screen to black. It's had to read from a distance. You did not take into consideration of those with poor sight. Blue was just fine. Change some times is not the best interest to the customer. If it is not broke don't try and fix it. You know the Japanees did not change the cars or products they took what we had and improved it many times over. The chineese are using the price feature to attract business. and they are goog a good job. Why hasn't Direct TV done the same to improve.

FX channels

Please do NOT take FX off our progrmming. If FX is taken off we will change providers. It is our favorite channel (Sons of Anarchy) I have had Direct for many years, but I will change if this happens. You have given us great service so I was shocked to hear this on my TV last night. The sports channels are not my fave so I am OK with this, but many of my neighbors are not. Please reconsider your plans as well you know you will lose many customers. We live in Jacksbors TN, small town, but many Direct customers thank you

I am very upset that us, as innocent faithful customers find ourselves once again in a war with the cable networks!! WE ARE WHAT KEEPS THESE COMPANIES IN EXISTANCE!

I have been with Directv since 1999 and I pay 170.00 a month for all 5 rooms in my house that I want services in. I do not want to leave Directv, but will if either things happen. 1-dropping FX channels, etc, or 2-passing the 40% increase in rates on to us, the customers. After doing the math, Im looking at over $60 a month more on my bill, which I REFUSE to be trapped in paying.

This is nothing but the powers that be showing a level of greed that I will not be a party of. Once again, I find myself shopping for the best cable prices and moving my business elsewhere. Direct, you are cutting your nose off to spite your face, and may this whole thing shoot you in the foot if you end up doing the wrong thing to your customers!

Shame on you and all who jump on board with you! D.Taylor

Direct TV sucks!!!!

Had Direct TV installed on July 7, 2011. First of all, the installer did not have the DVR box that I had ordered. He installed the regular boxes and left. He did not leave us a channel guide or show us how everything works.Four days later I call because it is not working correctly. Service keeps going out and then coming back on. I am informed that it will be fixed on the 15th when they come to install DVR box. I have to call 3 days after the DVR box is installed because service is going in and out again for no apparent reason ... no rain or a cloud in the sky!! The customer service rep can't speak english clearly so she is hard to understand but informs me that I have to wait a week for someone to come out to fix the problem. After asking to speak to a supervisor and being placed on hold he tells me that he has spoken to the supervisor of dispatch and she will send an email to the marketing rep for my area to see if they can give me an earlier date. That is the craziest thing I have ever heard of!!! A woman calls me later to tell me that someone will be out the following day. The supervisor or this lady were not very nice or professional. The next day the tech said the problem is in the box outside caused from another tech that was here the day before working on someone else's problem. He says he can only replace part of the power supply that needs to be fixed because he doesn't have all the parts. He left my daughter his cell number with instructions to call him if it goes out again. Well, it only worked for about 20 minutes so she called him back. He came back and said he would call the maintenance people to come out and fix it and they would be here the next day.I was at work and had called customer service after my daughter had told me it wasn't working. This was before the tech had said he would get maintenance to come out. I was told that it would be a week again before someone could come out. Maintenance came the next day but did not fix the problem. I called customer service and explained the whole situation to see if they could send maintenance back out and was told that I would have to wait a week. So it has been 3 days now and we can't even watch a progam because the service goes in and out so much. I have my doubts that they will fix it when they come in 2 days. This is the worst service I have ever had and talking to customer service is like talking to the wall. It's like they have a script to go by and can't say anything else. I think I have spoke to the same girl 3 times and she can't speak english clearly so I have a hard time understanding her. She did try to sell me their service package for 6 dollars a month to avoid a 65 dollar charge each time they come out. I told her I am not interested in their service package bacause the service has not worked correctly since it was installed and I won't be paying their 65 dollar charge for coming out. I don't understand how they can expect customers to wait a week for service to be repaired and on top of that they think I'm paying that 65 dollar charge. They have lost their minds!!! I am stuck with Direct TV because there is not another service for this apartment building. I had Dish before and it was bad in that it would go out whenever it got cloudy but this is ten times worse. I don't see how they stay in business. They need some people in there that actually care about the customers!!!! I can't express how mad and just totally dissatisfied with this mess that is supposed to be Direct TV!!!!

Also had that experience. Installer came with no DVR (thought it was promised by AT&T used car salesman) & then wanted me to pay $200 for it.

Both At&t & Directtv pointed the finger at each other as the one responsible, causing me to call each of them back & forth seeking a solution.

In the end, they both washed their hands of blame & left me paying too much for too little.

i ordered direct and was promised to pay 46.99 for a drv, 2 receivers. the installer came with no dvr.

i called and was told my bill now goes to 57./mo to get my dvr. i asked tem 4 or 5 times about this price and was insured that would be 46.99.

i called customer service supervisors and help very rude. next step is to report them to fcc.

Direct TV Defective Equipment and Poor Install

Install date was set for Thursday between 8 am. and 12. Technician shows up for install at 5:30 pm. Hooks up equipment and leaves cut cable ties and wire all over yard. Equipment remote that does not work correctly. When pushing button the remote sends a double signal to the receiver therefore you cannot tune in a specific channel. When I contacted Direct TV, I was told that I could purchase another remote and have it in 3 weeks for $ 25.00. I have had this equipment for 3 days and it did not work correctly from day 1. However they would send me a new remote for no charge if I signed up for the equipment insurance for only $ 5.99 per month. So far very unhappy with Direct TV considering I have only had their system for less than a week.

Don't order Direct TV

I have been considering switching from cable to satellite for a year or more and was finally caught by one of Direct TV's BAIT and SWITCH bundle campaigns that they use with Century Link. I called and ordered HD satellite receivers with basic programming for three rooms and internet phone to be bundled. I was quoted $106.00/month of which approximately $56.00 would be for the DirectTV. Since this was about $40.00 a month less that Cox I was intrigued even though it was $50.00 MORE than the advertised bundle that I called about originally. I am in in advertising sales so I am very aware of specials and temporary "offers" so I repeated the offer to the salesperson as I wrote it down which was three months free movie channels and a rebate of $33.00 that I need to enter before my first bill. The installation went through fine I entered my rebate and I get my first bill-NO rebate AND I am being charged an additional $45.00 for the movie channels. I called customer service and was LIED to yet again and told to get online and I would see credits(I would have loved to get online but it had been over a week and I still didn't have internet from Century Link but THAT'S another horror story).I got online at work the next day, no credits but reached a lovely rep named RIA who was able to reinsert my rebate and cancel out the movie charges. She told me that my bill would direct debit from my account in two weeks and HOPEFULLY the credits would be there-$78.00 worth. Guess what? Bill debits, the $45.00 credits my account the SAME day AFTER the bill debits so I have a $45.00 credit on my account. (I have NO IDEA when I will see the $33.00 credit). This company had TWO WEEKS to credit this account, and amazingly, they manage it just AFTER they debit my bank account for the full WRONG amount! People don't deal with this company. Anyone who lies from the beginning in sales, lies in customer service and then has SHADY billing practices (worse than a bank!) isn't worth it. I'm stuck with them for two years but you can be sure I will be leaving them once my contract is over!!!

Get Quoted One Price - Charged Another!

When I became a Directv customer, I was quoted a monthly price of a little over $30.00. Now when I get my bill it is over $50.00. Directv is not honest when it come to their charges. If they quote you one price, then that's the price they should charge. I do not trust directv at all. I have sent two email messages to Directv and received two replies that really didn't answer my question. All I got was excuses as to why the bill was $50.00. Seems they can come up with excuses but do not make any attempt to resolve the issue.

Did you take a look at the work order and confirmation of contract that you signed before the installation tech left your house? Satellite providers pretty much outline the same info; you can get quoted 1 price and receive something completely different yet the hold no responsibility to make amends with you.

The best part is the fact that they outsource all of their agents which from the outside looking in appears to be a way to wiggle out of liabilities made over false promises. Your bill may be $50+ now but rest assured that any of your "free" premiums will skyrocket after the initial 90 days of service and then during months 13-24 they can actually raise the cost of your service to whatever they want. You see this is all outlined in the terms and conditions of their contract.

Why do you think the document is so insatiably long if they weren't trying to scam people? I would also advise for you or anyone else to take a look at the Consumer Affairs website or their BBB rating..

Direct tv. They lie about everything and will tellyou anything to get you to sign up.

I was told on my initial contact with DT that I could and would receive Cincinnati stations. I was told I could get inter net services for one low price. After it was installed I found out the girl on the phone did not know what she was talking about. Also the 29.95 never happens!!!!!!!! After one year they raise your rate to 69.95 and remind you that you are in a 2 year contract. My second receiver has never worked I only get 5 stations on my up stair TV, they want 50.00 to come and fix their faulty equipment. This has been the worse "deal" of my life. BEWARE!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree with you, DTV lies to their customers to get them to sign up and then don't honor their end of the deal. You could try filing a complaint with the BBB,FTC and Attorney General in your state. One may answer and help you. The one thing you can do is to make sure DTV does not have your bank account# or credit card# if they have these now, change the numbers or change banks and do not give them the new#'s. Also pay them with money orders and keep all receipts. It is almost impossible to get any money back from them after they have taken it from the customers accounts.

Bundling problems with direct tv & at&t

I got a 2 yr agreement with direct tv & at&t to have dsl internet and choice xtra bundled together for a certain price. That was 6 months ago and I have not seen it yet. So far, I am paying twice the quoted price. When I contacted direct tv, I was first told that I did not have a bundling agreement and was not eligible for one. When I spoke with the next rep, I was told that they were waiting on at&t to respond to the opt-in request. I was told to call at&t and speak with an integrated service specialist. When I called at&t.. they told me that there was no such person and that I should contact direct tv and not them. During these economic times, I cannot afford to continue to pay at these rates. They can come get their *** and screw the contract. They can't get what I haven't got.

Commercial

Your commercial with the guy who gets an eyepatch is sick. It's like you're promoting gangs and violence. I think it's very misleading and degrades the public in general. I think you should fire the guy who thought up those types of ads for you. Can't you guys find something better than that? I'm sure you are paying alot of money for your commercials, so find some better ones for your money. I've been a direct tv customer for a few years now, and quite frankly, i'm embarrassed having you as a client with these commercials.

Direct TV Disconnecting Services

I owed direct tv $250.00 It was due on November 26, 2011. I mailed a money order for the amount of the bill. Direct-TV stated that it takes four-five days to process. It was Thanksgiving weekend, I exlpained to them, that I've been a valuable costumer to you for five years. I never been late and always paid my bill on time. I asked politely, "Can you please extend my 7 days extension until my payment is processed?" I had family over for the holiday weekend and they still interrupted my services. They didn't even consider the $10,000 I gave them over five years of service. They only were worried about the $250.00. I thought that this was a cruel and inconsiderate decision on Direct-TV. I immediately told them when they process my payment to come get their disk off my roof and the other house I own plus their 8 boxes between the two homes.

Direct TV Cinema Plus

Do not sign up for Cinema Plus on Direct TV unless you subscribe to all the premium channels. An agent talked me into it because he said I would have access to 7,000 movies which was totally BOGUS. I can't even watch Back to the Future. Out of 7,000 movies with my TV package there are only about 2oo obscure movies I can watch. And the worst part is, I agreed to a two year plan. Direct TV really led me down the wrong road and they will do nothing to right their wrongs. DO NOT sign up for DIRECT TV.
