Had Direct-TV for 2 years. The reception problems got so bad we decided to drop them and go back to OTA, just an antennae. Then sent us boxes to ship the stuff back. We would ship it back the day we got the box. Direct would say it was not received back so would trace it thru UPS and let them know who signed for it. They would then admit to having it, but would need another part sent part and the process started over. Finally got all the parts back, no more calls and final bill paid. 6 months later started receiving mail from them asking to come back, only 1 every 2 months. After another 6 months called them and asked to be taken off their mailing list since we would never go back. After the call got mailings every week. Sent them an e-mail after 2 months of that. Now I got 2 mailings a week. Have called them several times and still get 2 per week. Don't go to them since they will never let you go.

firstly when sending stuff back to directv or ANY service for that matter get SOMETHING in writing or proof of dropoff if there's such an option.

I had a similar problem years ago with cox cable. canceled my service and they told me where to bring my equipment so I did.

dropped it off and was about to leave after confirming who I was and that I was dropping it off due to canceled service. luckily the lady reminded me I needed a receipt as proof of the drop off.

but wouldn't you know it? the next week I received a phone call from them telling me I needed to return the equipment else I would be charged for them. I explained that I had already done so and even had the receipt they gave me.

I gave them the info off the receipt which they then double checked. so it seems that they misspelled my name or something because the last name they were looking for was supposed to return stuff and that somehow they got MY number for it.

call was done and never heard back from them.

so lesson learned, if you ever get ANY cable/satellite service again make sure you get a receipt of pickup/dropoff and of WHAT was included to cover your butt. do NOT count on these companies in most cases to watch it for you.

Can you still quit Direct TV, I.E. have you had it installed yet?

I've been with Dish for fourteen years and have never had something like this happen.

Generally their customer service is happy to help and doesn't seem to try and squeeze you. If you can cancel and go with another provider I can give you a referral code to knock $50 off your first bill.

My friend moved for free. I got charged 80 dollars for same equipment nothing new. He got free genie free HBo Miramax stars exceta. I got nothing I pay premium 73 dollars a month. And the installer was rude and erragant ***. Direct tv sucks!

I am out and cancelled by service!! We must not tolerate such 1st amendment violation......this communist socialism must stop and were all tired of a Dictator spewing out garbage! The 1st Amendment says congress shall make no law prohibiting free speech. DirectTV is a private company.

They can choose what channels they air. That's not a violation of free speech, that's called free enterprise which is another grand tradition of our country.

If you want to cancel and boycott DirectTV, that is your right. If others join you then DirecTV may bring back FoxNews because you have affected their profits and to make customers happy they would then provide them with what will make them happy (yay capitalism).

But taking FoxNews off the available channels is NOT a 1st Amendment rights violation. Not only that it may have nothing to do with their political views and likely it doesn't.

More likely than not it's simply a business decision that DirectTV wants more money from FoxNews and is taking them off the air until they get it. Removing a channel happens all the time in TV broadcasting as a negotiation tactic and has nothing to do with political agendas.

Directv - Return of equipment:

Six times I've asked for a return receipt to return the cable box and every time I'm told they sent it. Finally I looked up a direct TV location in Philadelphia , paid for the return myself with a signature receipt from the Post Office and to my surprise they refused it, instead of forwarding the box to the right location. The box came back to my door from the Post Office with the almost $15.00 of postage on it. I hate to throw equipment away. They are still charging me for the cable box, it's been almost two years when they lied six times of saying they either sent or will send the receipt for the return of the boxes. I also tried all ways to look up a phone number for Corporate to complain. No phone number and no answer to note sent of complaint. Very Bad Business!!! I guess you are not allowed to close your account with them. Will NOT USE or recommend direct TV. They put the amount for the boxes on my credit report! Giving those boxes to a thrift shop, maybe one of their employees with recognize it and return it!

Rude customer service mans name was Clementh from Georgia ...it sounded like he was reading from a script and when I would ask him to slow down and explain what he was telling me in steps so I could make sure I was understanding what he was asking me to do , he would sigh and start reading from the beginning again as if I was a huge but burden ,and would make these big dramatic pauses every time I asked a question and wouldn't answer questions he would just go back and start from the beginning of his "script " acting totally put out ...I never did get my questions answered... Don't have any idea what to do with the box but if I get a bill for it ,after asking him at least 3 times and getting no response ...there's going to be á big problem...

Yes.... All negative, I moved and tried to stop the service!

There was absolutely no option to dis-continue the service. I kept paying the monthly bill, since I did not want my credit score affected, by these a... Holes.

I understand competion and the drive to keep cost down. But this service could not be rated, no matter what scale you might use.

Direct TV does bad business. They cram charges and force customers into lengthy contracts when a simple change is made. They added the NFL Sunday ticket to my moms bill and said she had no choice but to pay for it even though she did not want it. She added a receiver and when the tech came out she signed off on the work. that extended her contract for 2 years and she had no idea. I tried to work it out with them but they refused to budge and now we need to fight it by not paying etc.

I only wanted HBO but added Cinemax because it was the 2 for 1 deal. I have an email from DirecTV confirming this 2 for 1. DirecTV is charging me full price and they refuse to credit me the difference. I was told I can't cancel until 30 days have passed either or I will be charged an early termination fee. Not just about money here, being cheated sucks. I called and spoke to 2 different customer service reps but they did not help at all. This DirecTV merger is already leading to them ripping us off. Can't wait to cancel it all and tell everyone to do the same.
