Directtv's poor customer service and billing

I have had Directtv since 2004. I have a choice package without preminum stations. My normal bill is around $81.00 per month. In August I overpaid my bill by mistake and had a $60 credit. The following month which is September I received a bill for $181 !! Naturally I called. Talk about the worst customer service ever! They were rude and even the manager was rude to me and no one still hadn't explained the situation to me or given my money back. I notice I had Stars added. I asked who did that? He said I see you gave permission, which I did not. The matter is still unresolved the manager told me to cancel Directtv if I wanted to! They suck I am getting someone else.

First of all JOKER (appropriate choice of name). The bill was overpaid there would be no reason to lie about my circumstances and the idea of the entire forum Pissed Consumer is to relate you issues about a company or product. Secondly, I am not a dude, I am female ex Air Force Recruiter and to think that I served to honor and protect idiots like you.

Guest

Flavorfav...If you decide to cancel service with DTV and have had service since 2004 have you had any upgrades such as any boxes replaced or new equipment of any kind? If so they most likely have extended your contract and may try to charge you early canellation fees.To be safe before you cancel change #'s or close your credit card or bank account whichever they have on file for you.

Don't put anything past these crooks because they are probably not done with you yet! Been There Done That!

Guest

You overpaid $60 and Directv decided to keep it for themselves??? lol Maybe you realised you overpaid and you decided not to pay your bill for the next couple of months??

Or maybe you never actually overpaid your bill? What have you been smoking, dude?

Direct TV Varified Then Changed Install Date

My account number is #318**** and I was given an Install date and due to a Direct computer glitch they want to change it. I have a document email showing my install date as Oct27th. It is bad customer service to inconvience the customer for a Direct TV problem. The CS agents say they are powerless to change the date. I am a member of a nationwide media. It's seems like I am not the only customer who has had problems with their install date being changed. I need to see if Direct TV is going to rule in favor of the customer instead their computers. Thanks, Sans Tyler,Texas

They lied to you and you will never see those channels you want. They are going to charge you a huge cancellation fee.

I suggest you close your credit or debit card account because they will just charge them right after you cancel. File a complaint to the FCC and BBB

Directv

My huband and I started with Direct TV in 9/2007 after moving into our new home. Over the past couple of years I recieve brochures in the mail with my name and adress with promotional offers. After recieving several I called to inquire and was told I was not eligible because I was an existing customer. I asked them to stop sending me the promotions if they wouldn't honor and they continues to send them anyway. Recently, the local telephone company put fiberoptics lines in our area and had a promotion to switch. So we did. After discontinuing our service with diretv, we received a statement with a 0 balance and a refund check for $ll.22. A month later I received a We Have Sent You A Final Bill But Haven't Received A Payment of 33.93 signed the collections department from direct TV. No explanation on the bill. After calling to inquire they claimed it was a new bill for 3 PPV movies. We have never used PPV and never had the Diretv hooked to our phone line for that reason. They claimed it was for 3 movies watched in 2007 they claimed they obtained the info. off my returned equipment. What a rip off and I am pissed.

I was told from a "customer service resolution specialist", that it would take their processing 6-10 weeks for my refund check to get to me by mail!! I said that that was absurd! He said that it didn't matter if it was a card refund or a paper check.

Who has gotten a refund back from DirecTV?

How long has it taken you to receive? How long have/ had you been waiting??

Is there anything You did or I can do, to speed up the return process??

I was told that writing or contacting the BBB would help.

Does anybody know if that is true?

down with DTV!!!!!

Direct Tv

I need to know how to get out of a Direct TV contract. Their customer service is horrible. My TV is out, and their reply is they can have a technician out in two days. I pay for a monthly service contract and that's the best they can do. I fell for their lies and got rid of my cable company that would come out and fix my cable immediately. I am not a couch potato, but I do enjoy my evening tv after a long day at work. Any help or advice on how to void the contract would be great.

I would like to get out of my contract too.Have you had any luck? They raised my bill from $55 to $81.Im on fixed income. This is more than my elactric bill.

Guest

TAS,This is not good advice! they keep records of all the movies ordered so you can expect to receive a bill and the non return fee for the box is much higher than the $45 you state.

I am no fan of DTV but believe me you can't believe a word they say they often tell you what they think you want to hear(THEY LIE) they know that chances are slim in your taking to the same person twice. they have been doing this for years and years and they know all the dirty little tricks to use and in the end the customer will most certainly lose.

Guest

I just got off the phone with Direct TV and let me tell you that I was a loyal customer fro 7 years. I sent my box back and now received a bill for 3 pay per views from 2007.

Charlene from Direct tv informed me that if my phone line was not plugged into the box, they had no way of knowing that I ordered pay per view. They can only charge me when I return the box and access card. So.....if you are stuck in the contract, unplug your phone line, order all the pay per view you want and just don't ever return your box or access card.

You will be charged the $45 for the box but all the free pay per view you can handle. Good luck.

Guest

just take the appointment they offer. Cooperate.

Directv is your partner not your slave. You have a business relationship with Directv and if they tell they could send someone over in 2 days then you must respect that.

After your service is fixed you call back and ask for credit for time without service. Remind yourself why you decided to dump cable and went to Directv.

Direct tv unauthorized hold causing financial woe

when i signed up for direct tv i was not notified that they would put a "hold" on my account. this hold was $25 at a time when i had $10 in the bank. as a result of this combined with the way td bank puts things in their own order not in which they happen in reality caused me to overdraft 3 items. this led to $105 in fees. i was told that if i faxed the info to them i would be refunded the money. my bank branch actually faxed everything over along with notes of what happened on july 16. i called direct tv that afternoon and was told that they had received everything and i would receive my money in 8-10 business days. i followed up the next week and was told that it was all set just a matter of waiting the allotted time period, please be patient. 8-10 business days ended july 30. needless to say no money posted to my account. my wife called on sat. and was told that they could not see any notes, maybe we faxed it to the wrong #. we told them that we had been confirmed that it was all there. my wife climbed to a supervisor who could not find anything. then to a manager who could not find anything. finally she told them to send someone to get all the equipment we did not want the service. when she was transferred to the disconnect department that person looked it up and lo and behold found all the notes and dates. he told us the money would be repaid monday aug 2. nothing posted to our account yesterday or today so i called this morning and was told the finance dept. had not reviewed it yet and when it was approved it would be another 3-5 business days. mean while i have had to take out money to feed my family and get gas to get to work and now am faced with 6 overdraft fees $35 each all of which would have been avoided if they cared just a little about the customer. they are a billion dollar company and im just a working stiff who would like to see the red sox once in a while in the little free time i have. yeah we are both pissed.

They have to have the card holders name on the account in order to use the card without permission. If you were not on the account they cannot charge it.

Just a heads up, we just ended our contract in April of 2010 and on July 30 they debited my account for 445 dollars. What is ironic about this is that the Direct TV account is in my husbands name but the bank account they took the money from is mine.

Got hit for almost 600 dollars in bounce fees. I never authorized them to use my card however they say that in their contract they can use any card you use at any time to obtain funds without your permission.

If I pay my childrens account to help them out they can hit my card and account at any time. BEWARE

Auto renew is not listed in my contract

The congress along with the FCC is reviewing these kinds of Auto Renew actions. They do not mention in my 15 year contract any provision to Auto Renew anything. I have not approved this procedure, nor have I been informed in writing that authorized them to do so. I have filled an FCC complaint. This simply an autocratic way for them to increase revenue. My solution was to have my account blocked on any ordering of any kind As of 10-20-2010 they Auto Renewed "NHL $42.95" which I am disputing with Direct TV Billing deparment and Version

DirectTV has been doing this ever since they have been in business and this has been many years . Congress and the FCC, The BBB, the banks and Credit card co's acts as though they don't know what DTV is doing or how to stop them.(Certainly a little money under the table does not hurt)DirectTV lives by their own set of rules (nevermind noone knows what these rules are except DirectTV) and everyone must abide by these rules or else. The only sure solution I see is to get rid of DirectTV ASAP and never get involved with them again.

Direct TV Billing and Customer Service

We have been fighting Direct TV for over 2 months on billing issues. Our box quit working so we called them and they sent a tech out to replace it. They told us it was covered and there would be no extra charges. We had their service for over 4 years with only this one service call. Our TV reception was so bad the last 6 months we called them to see what can be done. They told us we would have to pay to have someone come out to check our reception. We decided to cancel service. We called them to make sure we had completed our contract and were assured we had. We setup service with another company, called and cancelled our service at which time we again verified that we had completed our contract. We have received harassing phone calls stating we owe them money. Funny, we receive these calls at night when "no one can help us". We have called twice to have them fix our bill at which time they assure us it is fixed. We will never go back to this company and we highly recommend no one uses them. There is nothing good about Direct TV.

I'm continually on the phone with a person that not only can't speak or understand the English language but doen't have a clue on how to help you with the billing problem.

I'll never never never have Direct TV in my home nor give them a referral. I could kick myself in the rear for ever changing my service from Comcast to D/TV. What a bunch of illiterate foreigners, nothing on the other end but.......

"Our box quit working so we called them and they sent a tech out to replace it" When they sent a tech out to check and replace your box I'll bet they have renewed your contract for another 2 years! That is how DTV operates. You need to check your credit card or bank account whichever they have on file for you for charges you did not authorize if so and it is credit card you can dispute the charges,if bank account some will let you reverse the charges, some won't.It sounds as though they have turned your account over to collections.

Charging to rehang wires!

After being a Direct TV customer for about 7 years it becomes more and more difficult to deal with these idiots. I keep trying to believe in them but when you finally get an agent and they first thank you for being a good long term customer you know you are in trouble right then!! I need the outdoor wires they installed rehung as they are drooping down about 5 feet from under the eave and I am sure that one of these days service will disappear and it will take 5-6-7 days for someone to get here to fix it and I won't have their lousy service for those days. So after my first call is transferred and then ends up with the message that it cannot be taken at this time CALL AGAIN LATER(!) I have to go through everything again and I am told that they don't camouflage wires and if I want them fixed I must join their *** service plan or pay a onetime service fee of $49.99. What the heck will they ever dream up next? I told the woman I just want the wires put up where they installed them, not rerouted or anything but she was insistent until I blasted her. She then waived the fee and made sure I understood this would be a ONE TIME ONLY thing. I must say I got my appt quickly for 2 days from now so we will see what happens. When I had the DVR service installed it took 4 appointments and about a week to get it done. And that was something they would make money on- I can just imagine what this will take. I am locked into Direct TV till next June and I hope by then there is a better way to go. Direct TV is great as long as they are just collecting your money, but when you need them to step up and provide any customer service they make you want to strangle somebody.

Directv

I just recently hooked up direct tv in the past 3 months. They were a day late to install, and the installer brought neither manual nor cables to hook up the receivers.

They had to "borrow" the cables for my DVD player and promise to replace them later. After several phone calls to the installer (a long distance number that I was charged for) and several calls directly to the company I have neither the manual (unless I down load my own on a dial up modem) or the cables that they stole from my DVD players.

I also called the number for refer a friend (I specifically looked up that number and called it) Neither I nor my friend have been credited with the money on our bill. I also have had difficulty manuvering their horrible website to get any information and to get my rebates (which I haven't seen yet either).

A phone call eats up a good hour or so (at least) every time I call and has resulted only in me wasting hours of time while the people at the other end have promised to make it right. Only the person who I talked to about the manual was honest -- and he told me that since I was unlucky enough to have gotten a box with a missing manual I didn't get one.

I felt like cancelling very soon after I signed up, but they charge for that as well. I've never felt so scammed in all of my life.

After reading many, many complaints I have come to the conclusion that DTV allows only a few people to receive the rebates (maybe a few people to prove they actually do the rebates) while most do not get rebates from DTV. DTV keeps putting off most people or promising them that it is all taken care of or will be and all of a sudden they tell you it is too late that you did not do so and so in the allowed amount of time. The biggest kicker is that if you have any equipment upgrade throughout your contract even if for non working equipment that extends your contract another 2 yrs

Guest

never got my rebates either, got free HD for life, but they brought out a non HD receiver.

Satellitedirect tv

SatelliteDirect TV-FRAUD. I paid for service, used for 1 1/2 days, then was not able to sign up again. I have written over 20 times for resolution and correction. I have asked for REFUND, I have asked for assistance. They have NOT answered since they told me to PAY AGAIN. At that time, I asked for my money back. They wanted to charge my credit card AGAIN. Once I showed proof of payment, they did not return ANY EMAILS or OFFER ANY HELP to resolve issue. HELP ON LINE is bogus - fraud - SCAM. DO NOT ORDER ANYTHING FROM THIS COMPANY OR THIS SITE.

Direct TV lies to their customers

I have had Direct TV six days. I was never told about a 5.00 dollar charge for some service plan, that I still don't know what it is. I was told , I would get whole house DVR service. which I don't have and Can't get now, per a Direct TV employee. I am now being told,I can't get on Demand, because I have wireless Internet modem. Then I was told I could get it but I would have to pay $148.00, because the technician didn't set it up,when he installed the service., and I am not a new customer now after 6 days. My next step is to contact a lawyer, because I have no intention on paying direct TV a penny, and I thought cable was bad. At least I was with them for 30 years, before I started having problems.

Direct TV has very deceptive selling of their services. BEWARE!

If you order whole home DVR service, make sure you are receiving HD receivers in each room you are planning to access your DVR from. They give you standard receivers and you cannot watch your recorded shows in other rooms unless you have HD receivers. Cost to upgrade them, depending on who you can get over the phone, will range in price of 99.00 to 175.00.

VERY DECEPTIVE whole home service. BAD,BAD Direct TV!

Yes, Direct TV is one of the lowest rated companies in the world for scamming people so it should be a buyer be forewarned.

One thing you can do is open one special account just for payments to DTV and or use the pay up front Visa cards from Walmart. Keep only enough money in your special account to pay them...if you cancel then they can't hit you for a scamming cancellation fee..no money in the account for them to suck from you.

I did..really *** them off so it was payback time for me.

Hurt my credit?..nope

Never give a company your main checking account and debit card...lol sho was funny when DTV realized I had scammed their low life scamming butts before they could scam mine.

Toby C Iog

Wait till you try and cancel them and you will get hit with a 300 dollar charge.

Shocked With Direct TV... Rude, Rude Rude!

I had Direct TV service for 4 years straight(because thats all that was offered in my area, not by choice). I disconnected my service because I was moving.I moved to a small country town at that bottm of Skyline. Once again, nothing but Direct TV. So... I called to order service at my new address. I gave them all my information including my Credit Card number. The rude, loud mouth rep comes back and says Ohhhh someone who lived at this address owed a bill when they moved back in 2008, would you like me to charge the card you just gave me to clear this balance up. I said nooooooway I dont know these people and I dont owe a bill. She said well sorry mam you either pay the bill or no service at this address! Im shocked.... How can someone even expect me to pay someone elses bill! Ive called serveral times to try and get a number to someone above the rookie customer service people but have been unable to obtain one. What do I do ????

Early cancellation fee because I lost my home!

As of 12/8/2009, I was forced to move out of my home that was foreclosed on. At that time I told Direct TV that I would not be able to use a satellite dish on the condo I was moving to because it would detract from the entire complex unity and therefore discouraged by the Home owners association. It would certainly detract because my unit is right on the front at the street where it would need to be placed to get the signal to operate properly. Moreover, I am renting this unit and the landlord would not allow it. I had already been with Direct TV for a couple of years and in the spring of 2009, I changed a TV in my home to HD so I bought a HD recorder, at the suggestion of Direct TV, from Best Buy for $299.00 for which was still charged a rental box fee each month of $5.99. Apparently, at that time, they re-uped my contract for another 2 years. So now not only do they want my HD recorder, that I purchased, and another HD box back, but they want me to pay them a penalty because I had to stop their service, not because I wanted to but because I was forced to move to a place that I could not use their service. They stopped my service as a "courtesy" for 6 months but with a charge for this "courtesy" of $85.+ but then in June, they informed me they would be turning on the service and even though I did not have a dish or a box installed, I would be charged until the contract ran out. At that time, I told them the above again. They don't care! They said they would send shipping boxes for me to send them the HD boxes back. They did not send any boxes to me. They stated that when the HD boxes came back, I could *** the boxes charges from what they claim I owe but they would not remove the contract penalty. This is unacceptable. I cannot believe that this Direct TV policy is not illegal. It's highly insensitive, insidious & sneaky.
