Upset but loyal customer

I tried to turn on my Direct TV system on Monday June 15,2009 only to find out that the system was not working and I am greatly puzzled as to why. I have my monthly payment for the service automatically deducted from my Checking Account, have had that payment system for some time with no apparent difficulty. I attempted to use my Visa Debit Card to restore the service but was told that that method of payment couldn't be accepted. I did pay using my Checking Account information(the Visa Debit Card takes money out of my checking account) and that mode of payment was accepted. Please tell me what's going on! I have relied on the system for several years with No Trouble until this morning! Please contact me at the phone number you have for my account and tell me what is going on!

How long had it been since you used that DirectTV box? I have three boxes, and one of those is in my motorhome. When I don't use it for for approximately a month, it is automatically disableled by DirectTV...for security reasons, and I have to call them to turn the box on.

There is a way to do it by using their 1-800 number.

I'm having similar problems. There's a difference between Direct TV and DIRECTV.

The second company runs the scams you were discussing.

So, how do we all get help? Where do we go to report this?

Guest

I have had directv for over ten years and never had a problem. Maybe it depends on what state you are in.

When i want to cancel my service for any given reason, they would always offer me three months of free Hbo, stars or whatever i wanted. Maybe you should check again.

Guest

We are having our nightmare with them as well. They quoted a price to my wife and she agreed.

They came and set it up and when we got our first bill a week later it was much higher than we agreed upon. So we told them to turn it off. They say they have no such offer as what we were quoted.

But to not continue they are going to hit us with the $400 something fee. These people are criminals plain and simple.

Directv - lies about hook ups

I wanted to have directv installed in a front bedroom. Was told that it would be free because of the coverage I have. Well when the installer got here he told me that to install dtv in the front room would cost me about $1000.00 - just to run the cable from one side of the house to the other. Then he was suppose to set up my HD. Needless to say that I only get HD on a few channels but I still have to pay for it because there must be a lose connection on my boxes. It has never worked right since the installed put it in and I have called dtv several times. Rip off artist.

Although directv STANDARD professional installation is free there are some things that can be custom and since the installers that directv uses are subcontracted (that means directv pays them one flat fee) they can charge you for custom work for things such as wall fishing this is where the installer has to run the cable down your wall and through *** hooking up your entertainment center, if its going to take more then the alloted 150 feet of cable, ect ect ect. However it does seem like the installer was trying to charge you an unfair amount.

ds desterano,

Directvs hd fee is $10, the hd extra pack if you so choose to have those extra like hd net movies, mgm hd ect is $4.99

SO with the hd fee of $10 that you must pay in order to get the regular channels in hd, and if you CHOOSE to have the channels that are just hd and nothing else is $4.99 all together its $14.99. So I have no clue where you get your $20 at.

Second of all, you can choose to own the receiver if you want, it does you absolutely no good because the charges are all the same, your just not in a commitment, and then its $399 to own just the standard hd ird with no dvr at all. Directv gives all of their customers and option when you first start service to get ONE $100 discount off an advanced receiver, if you already got that or you turned it down at that time, thats your problem, not theirs. SOME customers with any company who are truely "valued" that means they have been with the company for OVER THREE YEARS with NO DISCOUNTS OR CREDITS FOR AT LEAST TWO are usually entitled to something.

Guest

directv..sucks..bad service..horrible picture...super expensive..they charge customers $100.00 for hd box(you never can get $back)..but they still own the box...you pay another $20.00 for the hd channels..they really rip off customers...told me my 1 tv was bad thats why it wasnt working right..new tv did same thing..they broke a antique german glass block window while doing installation...never told me..found out when i got water in my basement...stay away from directv..it really sucks

Transfering service to a new address within the same state extends your contract. info not disclose

I had to change address 6 months into my contract. I as told Could have 1 move without penalty.Checking on my contract expiration, my contract was extended Now I have to keep their service for an additiional 6 months unless I pay an early termination fee. This contract extension with relocation was never disclosed to me. in fact my 2 year contract end date was confirmed by an agent and he said that my termination date would be the same. Now I have had to downgrade my service to family package to be able to afford now that the discounts they originally gave me expired. What a scam. Who do I complain to? They won't do a thing about it after discussing it with them. I never signed a new contract, Iwas never informed of the change and I am still using the original receivers that I recieved 2 years ago.

Direct TV Early Termination Fee Despite No Line of Site for Dish

Account # 3515**** Lindsay Alison Clark Received service at 1390 Kirston St. Reno, NV 89503 Moved to Montebello Apartment Complex 5200 Summit Ridge Dr. #3121 Reno, NV 89523 Writing in regards to early cancellation fee assessed without knowledge after being told would not be assessed any additional fees. Mid-may called in to inquire about what to do since our apartment has no line of site. Spoke with Rose. She ensured me that there will be no early cancellation fees because of the no line of site. Was informed I would have my account deactivated on June 5th, and would be receiving a bill in the mail with my final account balance and would also receive my recovery kit by this time. Was told June 13th was cut off time for them to generate bill. Recovery kit needs = 3 boxes and ids + remotes. They will have 3 months to inform me of additional charges. Montebello, Tansies, confirmed there will be no line of site from our apartment on acceptance of our application. On Tuesday I called in to inform direct TV that I had not received a final bill or any recovery kit. Was concerned that my account would be charged and wanted to prevent any problems that would arise as a result. Was told not to be concerned. Wednesday at 8:00pm I received a call from your service department Telephone number: 1-80*-531-**** informing me that my recovery kit had been sent. Friday June 13th, Direct TV automatically charged my Bank of America account for $346.92. No notification was giving or a written bill. At no time during my investigation process was I told to expect a deduction. Sunday June 15th, 7:30 am called in and spoke with Jarred, who declined to help me due to updates. Reported 2-3hour time slot for systems to be back up. But was transferred anyways to Ashley in tech services who told me the same thing (7:45am) spoke to a supervisor who asked me to call back as well, named Frank. Called again at2:00pm and spoke with Jerry who said systems will be down for 24hours. Refused to give me an eta so I informed him that I will be calling every hour until someone can help me with this problem. Jerry was very rude and I could detect a hint of laughter in his voice while he serviced me which only led to further aggravation on my part. Called back at 3:16pm and spoke to Marie. She at first said the charges were for my equipment and then changed her mind to an early cancellation fee. Once again she transferred me to the department responsible for charging my account who told me "It isn't direct TV's fault that you chose to move into an apartment complex you couldn't receive service at." At 4:00 had my verbal spoke person call back with my legal approval. Obviously I wasn't making any headway with getting answers and even was refused to be given a copy of my account activity and current list of charges by Marie. Bryan P. Snyder spoke to two service Representatives and after finally being transferred to someone who had answers we discovered: That at the time of termination I had never missed a payment, and had a zero balance. That the company considered an early cancellation fee grounds for removing money from my bank account without my knowledge. And that because I had chosen to get a DVR service, that they had switched my agreement from a one year to a two year without my personal knowledge. I also discovered that somewhere in my phone conversation with rose I declined a service Representative to come out and assess line of site. Mentioned who strange that would be for me to decline a service that would set me up to receive an automatic withdrawal of $324.92 without my consent. Mentioned also that nowhere in speaking with anyone did anyone mention this cost, that Rose said because of confirmation I was clear from additional charges and that I should keep my eyes out for a final bill. As a result my account is standing at negative $283.53, with 5 possible overdraft fees to be assessed at $35 dollars each for purchases made without the knowledge of account activity by company. Also led to missing payments on credit card due on the 14th and also to me making a personal loan of $600 dollars from my parents to prevent negative cash flow that would incur for the following weeks till deficit is filled, would have missed auto insurance payment. Informed company that I am not 30 years old and do not have ample amount of cash flow. Due to misinformation I'm looking at almost a 1000 dollar problem including overdraft fees, personal loans, and this unauthorized activity. Informed direct TV personal that this seems illegal and wonder if no headway is made with company for resolution if we would have to seek legal advice. I am waiting now to hear back from some sort of specialist with the company to help me with resolution. So to wrap it all up: I am livid with the operational procedures of this company. I am angry that I spent my entire Father's day on the phone with the customer service department and was giving the run around. I am angry that I was not informed in order to be considered for the no line of site voiding of contract that I needed to have someone come down from the company to confirm this. I'm angry that the information that was given to me by Rose was not correct and that she led me to believe that I was not to receive any charges to my account. Further more, I'm angry that I didn't receive a copy of the two year contract at the time of install (all I have is a signed installment paper) and that nowhere on it does it say an exact amount I will be assessed for early cancellation, just that it will be assessed. I'm angry that I was blamed for this mistake by your associate Marie exact words being "It isn't direct TV's fault that you chose to move into a complex you couldn't receive service at." And would not even relinquish my own account information to my house. I'm angry that I was told that I would be receiving a final bill on the 13th but instead had my account automatically charged without ANY knowledge from me in either written or verbally from any one I spoke to over the course of this past month. Not only was I misinformed and not expecting this unauthorized transaction on my account, but as a direct result I am now in negative account standing will be looking at 5 overdraft item charges of 35 dollars each. I had to also take out a $600 dollar loan from my parents on June 15th to prevent the next two weeks of my paychecks being taken out. Now it's been a few months since I have closed the account. I didn't get my money back and decided to drop the whole thing until this happened: I get a letter a NEW final bill after they received my boxes. It was for 55.95 for movies rented in February. I was beside myself! How is it that a closed account can be charged for movies rented in February? Well apparently they have to hook up phone lines to each box that receives service so that they can charge the account for the services your using. They told me they aren't even responsible for hooking up the phone lines. That is a lie. My tv in the living room was hooked up to one and when I rented movies there I was charged so they must have chosen to only set one box up to bill as we go. Why wouldn't they provide a phone line to a box that is capable of renting movies from their system? How could this cable box be able to rent movies but not have the billing department receive the billing? So I got on the phone AGAIN with direct tv and finally got some headway with a customer service rep. The only reason they ever help me is to avoid a lawsuit and I am in arms. So I throw around the fact that companies like this have a class action lawsuit against these kind of practices and get the guy to credit my account for the charges. He starts talking about sending a service technician out to my house to confirm no line of site. I'm ecstatic thinking I might get my money back but am detoured by the rep when he starts mentioning these fees. He said I might be charged an installation fee and they'd have to reactivate my account (which means I would have to pay a bill!) to even get my money back. I'm happy that they dropped the charges cause it was their fault that they didnt do a full installation or neglected to charge my account at the time of purchase. But NOW its back on. I would be an idiot to let this happen to someone else and would really love to see them be reprehended for these practices that really do walk the line of being illegal. PLEASE dont use direct tv. All it takes is for a rep to click the wrong box and then one day you'll check your account and see a big overdraft fee. I want my money back!

Rip-off

Beware of Direct tv. It is a complete rip-off. I called to cancel my service because of the myriad of problems with the service. I was told that my contract was for two years and early cancellation would incur a fee. In my original contract, the terms was for one year. However, I was told by the representative that when I ordered another box for another tv I just received, that extended or renewed the contract for another year. This company, Direct tv, is full of deception, lies, and hidden fees. The service sucks. It doesn't operate during rainy or windy weather. Most of the channels are music channels. Their packages are rip-offs. Their movies are expensive. Their equipment is flimsy and requires holes in your home. I could go on..............

Someone needs to intercede. I have had Direct TV since February.

Had problems many times and now to get it fixed I must pay. I spent two hours listening to their rep say that my problems were rare. B--- S---.

Who is paying me for fixing their problem. Direct TV is committing nothing more than criminal fraud!

Guest

Direct TV can burn in ***!! They keep charging my checking account and making me overdraw!!

They will NOT refund my money! BTW, if you pay by check, debit card, or cc... beware... IF you cancel their service, they WILL charge you account!

They used my checking account number(not my debit card) b/c I paid by check online once... they keep that info! Screw that *** company! Will NEVER EVER use them again!

Be warned!!

AND always, always, always read the disclaimers.. they have a ton of hidden fees!

Guest

I have the exact same problems with Direct TV.

I changed out one box for a HD box and was promised 6 months reduced cost and Preminum chanels for three months. They never reduced my bill and when I called to cancell the service they told me that I would have to pay 360.00 to cancell-- I told them that I had been a customer for over three years so I had fulfilled my one year agreement--but they told me that I had signed a two year agreement by getting the second box.

Total Rip OFF

BEWARE OF DIRECT TV

Guest

we should find an attorney, I tried to canceled their services 48 hour into it , they wanted me to pay $500. dollars, they stick me with a service that i was unhappy with from the beginning ,so now a year later I canceled their services and they still want almost $400.dollars. thet will not get a penny more from me.

Guest

:( i can also agree with you. i had direct tv and like everyone else had numerous problems with them.

the last straw was last night. i received a text message saying the had just deducted almost $600 from my checking account.

i called direct right away, and was told that since i cancelled and i had a card on file, they had every right to deduct the money from my account. when i complained, i was told by the representive "at least you don't owe us any money now".

Guest

Yes, Direct TV is a HUGE ripoff and waste of money. Customer service is horrible.

I was hung up on multilple times by agents AND supervisors. They changed my terms without notice in the middle of my contract and I was forced to either agree to them, or pay for cancellation.

I could go on for hours, but I'm in a hurry. Just STAY AWAY from Direct TV!!!

How to beat Direct TV at their game

If you did not sign a new contract, refuse to pay the cancellation fee. Let them send you to collections, and when the collections agency calls, simply tell them that the bill from Direct TV is a "disputed bill". The collections agency will freeze any further action and send it back to Direct TV. They in turn will harass you from time to time, but it's their time being wasted. Also, if they have siezed money from your account, take 'em to small claims, as any court costs will be awarded back to you in your favorable judgement. I went through the early cancellation fee from these clowns in March of 2008. I have not sent them a dime, and told them to take ME to court. They will not. Any collections calls get the same response, the bill is disputed. I think Direct TV has finally given up, I haven't heard from them in months.

Direct TV Bad Buisness Practice

I too have been scammed by direct TV. They fail to mention that each and every receiver has a hidden charge A regular receiver costs $360.00 before 18 months and a HD receiver costs $480.00 before 24 months. I have two HD and one regular. A grand total of 1,320.00 to disconnect before my time is up. I have a year to go. My bill is 100.57 a month and even a year more of paying them won't bring me up to there disconnect fee. I never signed a paper saying I would pay for early termination. I had my son come over for the install. After signing the work order they handed him another paper and he signed that too. They never tell you to read it or that it is a Equipment Lease Addendum. Please everyone remember this piece of paper--you are signing away your rights. Bad service bad business. But they don't care they will blackmail you by charging your credit or debit cards to keep you as a client. Also promises of rebates after two months of service never happen. I was promised a rebate. I said was. So anyone out there thinking of switching to Direct TV? Think again

DirecTV charges to replace leased equipment.

After many years of DirecTV, I upgraded to High-Def. To do this, I had to lease new equipment, even though my 10-year old receiver was still working.

9 months later, my new standard definition reciever stopped working, no power on, nothing. DirecTV wanted to charge me $19.95 to provide a replacement. When I asked why should I pay to replace a piece of equipment (leased at that) less than a year old, I was put on hold for over 10 minutes.

Then I was informed I could pay for an extended warranty - on leased equipment! Never use DirecTV, they make you use their equipment, but you still have to pay if it breaks.

My family and I ordered directv about 6 years ago.

The bill each year was getting higher every year

and at the end the bill was 170.00 a month.

We could not afford the cost any more so I

stopped the service and sent the equipment back.

Now they said that they received the 4 boxes and put me on hold awhile then say they don't have the boxes. Its been 9 weeks and now they want 495.00 for the boxes that they already have.

Guest

VERY IMPORTANT: I called in regards to a “Shipping and Handling” fee that was charged to our Credit Card. We were NEVER informed about this charge.

The supervisor who I eventually got on the line yesterday was very rude to me and kept reiterating that we were told on the phone (by the setup guy) and at the time of installation (by the installer). I could not believe this, like he was the one who did both? This charge was supposedly in the paperwork we had received from the technician (installer) who came out, Do you may want to come to my house and look at the paperwork the technician gave us because it says no where on the 2 pages we received from him about this charge. If only I would've recorded the conversations both with the phone setup guy and the installer, neither told us we would be charged for this “Shipping and Handling” of the equipment.

This is OUTRAGEOUS. I AM SO FURIOUS with DIRECT TV. This is exactly why we switched from COMCAST, because of the hidden fees. Thanks Direct TV, We will not be renewing with you unless we get this hidden charge taken off our credit card.

I wouldn’t be wasting my time right now for such a miniscule charge, but the fact, I REPEAT, that it wasn’t mention to us, is very underhanded and tricky on your part. You haven’t heard the end of this.

Guest

Wow I would have got Directv but the way realist just acted im gonig to pick somone else, I don't care that you pay extra but to see an employee talk like this is really bad so just from that you lost a sale

Guest

wow - realist.. you sound like the BEST costumer service rep! So nice and helpful - great attitude!

Guest

I hate to tell you realist but Leased cars are almost always new and are covered by the factory warranty.

Guest

Direct TV charges me $10 per month per leased receiver and I can guarantee you if one of my receivers goes bad they will be paying to ship it to me or I will switch to cable. The receiver itself only cost

realist

Wow, you like to tell just what you have to, to make a company look bad. First of all, the $19.95 was a shipping and handling fee, that is required to ship out anything, regardless of how special you think you are.

I have been with them for years so I know what "fees" your talking about, electronics fail, its what happens, I would like to meet the person who has never had an electronic fail. The what you call "extended warrenty" is the directv protection plan (fyi both satalite companies have this) What the directv protection plan does is gives you technical support that is only for customers with a protection plan, it also pays for any shipping and handling fees if the receivers fail (since direct, as with most electronics, only have a 90 day warrenty, this is called LIFE), the protection plan also covers remote control replacement for normal wear and tear, as well as free service calls. GUESS WHAT I HAVE THE PROTECTION PLAN, just like I have insurance on my LEASED CAR, because wow, although I dont own the car, I only lease it, ford wont fix it for free, go figure.

Stop being petty. If you dont want to pay the fees, get the insurance "protection plan" if you dont want to pay the monthly fee for that, deal with the fees you will be charge for as a result.

Do Not Die Waiting On my Account Use yours.

Direct TV told me that as long as I mail my payment by the second of June that I will continue to enjoy all local programming. However, the next day my entire service was disconnected completely and the $70.31 wasnowwell over $130 and counting. I have no TV and absolutely no intention of paying the $70.31 since it will not restre my service. I am on fixed income and do not have room in my alleged budget for hoodwimks like Direct TV. I will continue to enjoy my TV by playing videos and DVDs to my 65 year olds heart content without paying direct tv another dime. Keep me tuned out of your liars poker expert lac of commentary for if you cannot be taken at your word you are not anyone I would ever want to deal with, period. Enjoy your wait since you caused the wait in the first place you might just as well. If you cannot be rue to your word why should I have to pay you anything, anything at all. Happy waiting!!! I am not going back to Comcast either so maybe you can join them in a liars, inc. wait fest Goodbye.
