Directv in Prince Frederick, Maryland - Misleading w/ fees & contract terms! Charging HUNDREDS extra

Complaint Text They are charging $240 cancellation fee because my apartment will not allow satellite. If I were to transfer they would have charged me a $150 moving fee that was never disclosed I was told by rep contract term was1 year as long as I didnt get HDTV-as I knew I'd likely be moving and TOLD HIM THAT UPFRONT My girlfriend signed contract. (I have a copy) And has payed bill on her credit card. However, they claim she isnt on account & when she has called directv they have refused to discuss the bill thats being charged to HER credit card. (hung up on / & she was told by one agent shes not on account because I don't love her) They are charging me for alleged late fees- though I have bank statements proving this was automatically withdrawn from our account since the beginning. We agreed to a set monthly fee- however their fee varies monthy by over 30 dollars ranging from $70 to over $100 (WAY over contract) - without warning or explanation ever from company. I've made attempts just cancel my service, I've gotten switched from rep to rep getting told different things, and LIED to - (I've made over 10 calls) I was told by agent that if I waited 1 additional month to cancel, I'd waive fees. this was a lie. Now not only do I have the 280 cancellation fee, I have the cost of an additional month because I was lied to. thousands of people are complaining about the same thing. IF they can rip me off of hundreds of dollars, imagine the yearly total of their racket.

Directv in University Place, Washington - Illegally installed service, illegally placed dish on neghbors property

Directv recently installed service to my rental property without my consent. They caused hundreds of dollars in damage by drilling holes into my siding. They also installed the dish in the neighbors yard without his consent. It was poorly placed on the ground, surrounded by cinder blocks. Another neighbor tripped over the poorly placed dish and now might seek legal action for injuries suffered on his property. They would not move the dish after multiple requests by the neighbor who was illegally infringed on, and myself, the legal owner of the property. They are completely worthless when it comes to customer service. Don't ever use their service. They carlessly hook up your service and don't take any responsibility for their actions. They literally told me they would hook up service, drill holes, and destroy another house if I ask them to put service on a random strangers house. Losing my wits, I also asked if they'd install a dish in the middle of the *** highway for me.... They didn't respond. :) stay away!!!!!!!!

I am a Landlord and my tenant was allowed to have a dish installed in the yard (not on the house). However, DirectV installed the dish about 3 feet over onto the neighbors property.

The property owner is threatening to take me to court if I do not have it removed. I have contacted DirectV numerous times, and even filed a complaint with the BBB. I was told that once they install a dish, it becomes part of the property. The property owner will have to move it at THEIR expense.

Once it is removed, and their customer's service is disrupted; then they will come back to install a new dish. I even spoke to a technician when I saw him in the neighborhood, asked him about how to have the dish moved over. He replied "Well, I remember telling them that that was about the best place to put the dish for them to get the best reception". I said "Well, that is not on the property that they rented, and it needs to be moved.

How can I have it moved?" He replied,"I'm not sure what to tell you. You might just want to call DirectV."

Directv in Jacksonville, Florida - Direct TV

I started service with Direct TV in March of 2011. I lost my job in summer of 2011. I called and asked them how much would it be to restore the service once I was able to, they said the amount of your last bill plus a reactivation fee ($148). Shortly after they sent me a bill for a little over $800!!!! They claim I cancelled the contact, which I did not. So there was an early contract termination fee, also a fee for the equipment & lastly the final bill. I called them about this $800 & some change bill they sent me. I told them I didn't cancel the contract!! T I reminded them of what they'd told me reguarding having the services restored. They claimed they didn't tell me that & demanded 800 plus dollars to resume services. I asked to speak with a supervisor or manager whom was very rude & was no help. I've since reported Diect TV to the BBB (better business bureau). I did this is September of this year. To date they haven't responsed. I just wanted to restore services & I'm not paying them 800 bucks when I never canceled the contract & I still have the equipment. Has this happened to anyone else?? What do I do now?? Help!!

The BBB gets so many complaints against DTV, they normally do not answer them. You can also file complaints with the FTC and Attorney General but there is not a lot anyone can do at this point, but do make sure they do not have your bank account # or credit card# or they will charge these. They will probably put a bad report on your credit report but you can post an rebuttal on your credit report.

Directv in Burt, Michigan - Technical problems

This starting happening around 1 month ago. My channels will completely change, all of them are not the channel they say they are. It usually constricts the channels to only a few, like some spanish channel. I have to reset the box and it fixes it for like 10 minutes, but when i start watching it again, it would occasionally start lagging sort of. Then after a couple lags it switches back to the other channels. I even switched up the box and cables from my upstairs to my downstairs box, and it still is not working. It is really annoying and i need help to fix it please.

Its something called an appointment. I used to work for a TV company, and I tell you, this was the hardest complaint to deal with without yelling into the phone, Shut the *** up.

This means they are booked.

They're not going to push someone else's appointment to make room for an *** customer. Next time you complain THINK!

Other people pay their bills and other people need appointments. You are not the only customer.

I need to get 2 teeth fixed at the dentistandthat is much more important than tv and ihave to wait a week for an open appt. There is no difference.

If the appointments are booked then they are. Wait your turn like a grown adult and find something ekse to do.

So we ordered Direct TV in September of 2012 for the first time. We had just moved into an apartment at that time also. When Direct TV came out to install they had sent a contractor from Arizona, who in all fairness was wonderful and a very nice person. The gentleman...

I recently signed up with direct tv, and had a dish installed in my apartment, and also purchased the insurance on it. When the installer came out, very nice, he told me that if I had any problems with the dish, the insurance would cover any charges that required him to return..

he never asked me for rules or regulations on how to set up a dish on my balcony, so he drilled it right on to my balcony. Since he is the professional and it is his job to know what is appropriate and what is not, I assumed he knew what he was doing. Two days later I got $100 dollar fine for "incorrect position of dish". Apparantley, it is supposed to be drilled onto a tripod, which I noticed all of the other 50 people in my apartment complex had, but he didnt do that for me.

TO NO FAULT OF MY OWN, which even the manager of my apartment complex said, the installer should know better, I called direct tv and simply explained to them the mistake the installer had made, and that he needed to come back out and take it off the railing and put it on a tripod before I got fined AGAIN. They then began to explain that in order for this to be done, there would be a 50$ charge. I spoke to five different people , whom all of them were no help, and not considerate to my situation at all. Why should I have to pay ANYTHING for something that was not my fault.

I was never told there were certain ways they were allowed to be set up, and He never once asked me for a copy on dish regulations. HE is the professional, not ME. The lady then told me that " all apartment complexes are different, and all have different rules." I was unaware, but if YOU were , then why , as a "professional" did you not make sure it was set up according to my apartment complexes policy. If he would have asked me for a copy of it, I would have walked down to the front desk and got one, and this all could have been avoided.

I finally spoke to a Manager named Josephine , who proceeded to tell me " No amount of your words , is going to change the fact that you HAVE to pay this" I am disgusted that I now have to pay a company who treats new customers so horribly for the next two years. To me, loyalty is everything, if I am treated fairly, I would have been a life long customer to them. Because of their mistake, I am now $150 out of pocket for UNECASSARY charges. I am a 22 year old woman who is 8 months pregnant, I work full time to be able to provide the basic needs for me and my baby.

$150 might not seem like anything to them, but to me That is groceries in my fridge, diapers for my child, or a minor bill paid. I am not an unreasonable person, but I feel as if in this situation I was treated extremely unfair. I should I have never cancelled with cox. Cox never once charged me for installment fees, or cancellation fees, because as a customer I was not happy.

If a customer is not happy with the service, they should not have to pay. PERIOD. I will go out of my way to make sure that I stop people from signing up with direct tv, and I will NEVER refer ANYONE to them . I am counting down the days untill my contract is up.

I can't believe that I had to go as far as writing the president of the company a personal email to let him know how the people who represents his company treat their new customers. The only reason I went with direct tv because they were cheap.

never again will I choose cheap over better customer service. ( direct tv over cox)

Directv in Tucson, Arizona - Direct Tv

To say that this company has terrible, terrible customer service is an understatement!! I called the company asking for a change in my billing cycle, because changes in my payday schedule, after they said they would make the change, this was in August 2012, and I was pleased to be informed at that moment ,in August, that this change was made, to my surprise, when September comes by, I have no such change and was informed that my billing date change did not go though, and I happened to find out by chance, I called to check, because of problems I have had before with this company. Examples of this mediocre service is that I get calls offering me pay perview events and after I agree and purchase the event, only to be informed I won't see the event, they sold me, the same day of the event, while this purchase was made several days before, they cancelled the purchase, after I was called by Direct tv, offering me the event!! I also purchased an event, which I never got to see, and was never informed that if I by any chance did not get to see the event, never informed by any way, verbal or on my bill, that if a pay perview purchase, is not watched, I had to call and inform them by a certain time frame, so I would'nt get billed, so, I got charged, without watching the event, and not knowing I had to inform it, I thought they would know if I did not get the pay perview event. I had to claim the charges for sime time for them to correct this, I mean, this was aprox. 70$$. and while they were correcting this, I was treated as a liar, and a theif. Also, the customer service is atrocious, not profesional, and at sometimes very disrespectful. I have had alot of hassle and grief from this company for 2 years, and to top it all of, their retencion department has no clue on how to deal with a simple requisition. I have been unhappy ever since I singned up and recommend not getting this service if you happen to have any other better cable tv service options. For what I'm paying, I really expect excellent customer service.

after 8 years with direct tv I cancelled my service .direct tv customer service is rude and should BE called 'self service',DIRECT TV THEN USED MY DEBT CARD TO COLLECT THEIR CANCELLATION FEE PLUS A MONTH OF SERVICE I DID NOT RECEIVE. This PAYMENT WAS NOT AUTHORIZED BY ME I am disputing this charge with my bank. a lawsuit in federal court is pending against direct tv on just this practice. their defense is that direct tv can bill for service and for NO service.mWOW what a concept=buy from direct tv or not and we can still get your money.

If you were with DTV for 8 years, there should have been no cancellation fees unless you had to have a replacement of their equipment due to malfunction or whatever and this renewed your contract. Hopefully your bank will work with you and get your money refunded but be aware that DTV can also recharge the account.
