I was a Direct TV Customer for over 6 years. Having issues with the receivers they sent me, they sent me a leased machine.

What I did not know at the time and never agreed to was that when they sent me the leased machine, they also put me in a two year contract. About a month or two getting the new machine, I cancelled my service because I was still having machine issues. About a month later I get a $300+ charge to my bank account. I ask why they changed me and it was for a early cancellation fee on my contract.

I said I never signed a new contract and that I had been a customer since 2002 and should not have a contract. I challenged them to show me where I verbally or signed a new contract.

They just said they would not refund me my money.

I am hitting all the complaint boards and BBB and considering spending the money on a small claims suit.

Monetary Loss: $320.

Location: Houston, Texas

I have the same thing. 8 years as a customer and they hit me with a 247.00 fee because i had them come out and replace a piece of faulty equipment and an up grade they offered at the same time automatically set me into another 2 year contract.

I disputed the charge to my bank and my bank reversed the charge.

I now have some *** from another country calling me trying to collect the so called debt. I have talked to a lawyer and he is sending them a letter but tells me they do this all the time.

I had Dtv for about the same time of 6 yrs and i called and spoke to a person on the phone to tell them i was having.to move and could not take it with me.They said just pay your last bill so i did.Now i have a collection on my credit report of over 1.000 dollars i just found out. These large not all of them but alot can do what ever they want.At first its yes sir or mam we can do this or that. But when get it then its pay your bill and shut up.

the previous comment was for S ....sbritt11..DirectTV purpously sends out receivers that they know will not last so the customer will have to order new ones and therefore add 2 yrs to their contracts or renew their contracts for 2 yrs.You can file complaints with the BBB,FTC and Attorney General online.you can also talk to your bank and ask if you can dispute the charges some banks will let you do this, if they do and the money is returned you may need to close the account and open a new one with new #

Guest

If DTV placed a charge on your credit card, you have the right to dispute this amount with your cc.your cc must return the money to your account pending their decision at which time the charge may be reapplied. To avoid this you might be able close the cc account once the money is returned but there is no guarantee they won't recharge. It will most likely go on your credit but you can place your own post of explination on your file as well, this will undermine anything DTV says.

Direct TV hit my bank account too. Luckily they didn't get very much and they won't get another dime.

I reported them to the BBB but they talked their way around that. They told the BBB that on the final bill it states that within two week they will charge the total amount to whatever credit card they have on file. What they failed to tell the BBB is that they charged my card two weeks prior to even sending out the final bill. Sounds like something I can take to court and fight if necessary.

And on top of all of that, my name wasn't even on the account and it was my credit card that they charged because it was used to make one payment on the account.

They are the most unethical company I have ever encountered and I'm just waiting for they day they decide to take this account to court...they will never do that, they don't have time for it. And if it is ever put on the person's credit it can be fought and won with the right attorney.

We are going to cancel, even though we have to pay a cancelation fee. We will still save money in the long run.

Worst customer service over. My choice is $400 in early termination fees or $237 to "move" the service.

What a rip off all the way around.

Go with another provider if available. Unfortunately my apartment doesn't give us a choice - probably getting kick backs from Direct.

they SCREWED me royally as well. They came to my house and installed a satellite in my yard (the only spot that would get a signal) and once spring came, the signal has gotten NILL.

After many hours on the phone, I have decided to cancel credit card on file with them. THe tech told me that I had to upgrade to HD..Fat Chance since I don't want higher bills and install charges. He also told me that they would wave the fees for upgrade since it is THEIR fault he installed it there. THey suck badddd.

I cannot believe the hours of time that I spend on the phone with them. No wonder it takes so long to get a person. This STILL has not been resolved.

I want them to put it in writing that they will NOT charge me a termination fee for cancel (because of line of sight), but they refuse. I may end up [aying the fee just to dump them

I would tell everyone to read your contract when you sign it. All of your complaints are in there. It is stated clearly, you just have to read.

IF YOU ARE IN CONTRACT WITH DIRECTV JUST TELL THEM YOU ARE IN THE MILITARY AND IS ABOUT TO DEPLOY THEY WILL EASILY LET YOU OUT OF COMMITMENT NO PROBLEM NO EXPLANATION. IF YOU WANT NEW CUSTOMER DEAL JUST CANCEL YOUR SERVICE AND CALL BACK THE NEXT DAY BEFORE YOU SEND BACK YOUR EQUIPMENT AND YOU WOULD QUALIFY AS A RETURNING CUSTOMER WITH NEW CUSTOMER OFFERS.

IF YOU NEED ADVANCED EQUIPMENT HD DVR JUST MOVE YOUR SERVICE FROM YOUR CURRENT ADDRESS TO YOUR CURRENT ADDRESS FOR FREE JUST SAY YOU WILL CANCELL IF ANY COST IF THREATEN WITH COMMITMENT TELL THEM YOU IN MILITARY. I HATE DIRECTV AS A COMPANY THEY WILL *** OVER YOU JUST AS THE REST SO *** OVER THEM,

Diresct TV customer support and management are a joke. I wish I could laugh.

Moving to a new location where no receivers are allowed...Direct TV wants to charge me a $180.00 cancellation fee??? does anyone know of any recourse to this unfair charge?

DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH DIRECT TV!!! THEY SUCK!!

RuthB - I don't feel sorry for you one bit. If you are struggling to put food on the table then should never have had DirecTV in the first place. Don't blame DirecTV for stealing food off your table when it was you who made the poor financial decision in the first place.

Satellite TV and Cable TV are luxuries and you obviously can't afford them.

I was informed of the $200 cancellatio fee today when I called to cancel my direct tv service. I talked for awhile with a CSR and finally agreed to a lesser package bu after seeig that I now have only cartoons, church channels, shopping channesl etc., i have no use for this at all and will go to my bank i the morning and cancel the auto pay to direct and to AT&T as well, once that is done, I will call both entities again and cancel the service with both.

I agreed to a years service and if and when they suggest that I owe them an early cnacellation fee I will request in qritig a certified copy of a signed contract as well as copes of all digital or analogue recordings wherein a contrat was entered ito on my part and in which I was advised that there was an early cancellation fee and what that fee was. If they fail to produce same then they can shve it and even if they some up wiht any kid of document or ecordigs that might imply knowledge on my part of what they were doing etc. they ca still shove it because once my account is closed to them they can send me bills all they wat nd they can send it to collections as well for all I care... I'm in a situation where illness has forced me into a no mooney or very limited situation and as a result even if they sue me they won't get a dime.

I hope everybody will do the same as I am wiht respect to stopping autopay as a first step and secondly to request in writin my certified return receipt, that they provide you with a copy of your contract and or all recordings within a specified period of time, like 10 days, aloong with their written explanation of said charges. Also, recommed that the last payment should be made by check and have the notation of account closed and paid in full to also be sent certified mail return receipt.

DTV is charging $300 to move people's svc, oh but $50 off for us because we are "such good customers"? wtf!?

cable is a luxury! wow! but to cancel service we get charged the early cancellation fees. Unbelievable!

What type of new age slavery is this?

wish we weren't so turned out by the te-lie-vision. It's the devil i tell ya!

I installed direct tv 6 months ago and when I signed with them I asked what if I have to relocate to another location within two years. They told me, if the new landlord doesn't allow the direct tv, I will be able to cancel it for free and I can move the service once per year.

Now I do have a new landlord that doesn't allow the direct tv installed, i call them and try to cancel it, I was told the only way for free cancellation is that the signal is too weak (which is vauge, define what is considered weak please) and if I want to move my service to a new place, I have to pay $99 moving fee because I have been with direct tv for only six months, not yet one year. I am so ready to file a dispute.

Guest

I was lied to by sales reprentatives, did not receive and did not honor free Hd after waiting for 1 year. When they finally did, it was not installed proberly and the techician who was supposed to come to repair never came.

The worst service ever. Direct TV did not honor the end of the contract, so we are fighting them about thier *** early termination fee.

Guest

Horrible service. Little did I know they get you for the cancellation fee which they have to do or they would not make any money.

Their service is so horrible that they need to get money somehow. I am horrified to have to pay the cancellation fee for horrible service but this is how bad the service was.

I want nothing to do with them and the cancel charge has made it that much more worse. I will be a strong advoate for poeople never to do business with directtv.

RuthB F

WildBlue which is Direct TVs' Internet is stealing $67.91 out of my bank account and will not return it. I was told it would be on the next billing cycle.

But I'm on a low fixed income so that money is groceries that I can't buy this month.

They never reveal all the stuff they eff you with.

They are stealing from me and I hate them and will hate them even worse with every meal I don't get to prepare this month. I would love to know a way to get even with that company!

Just so that everyone knows..... if u move while having a contract and ur new place doesn't get signal like an apartment complex, they will cancel without cancellation fees.

Most apartments only allow the dish on The balcony.

Happened to me. Goodluck.
