I pay Directv almost $2,000 a year which includes $10 per month for local channels in the Boston area.Last summer a dispute over how much Directv was willing to pay for them cost two weeks of Olympic coverage and now WCVB in Boston (#1 station by all ratings) has been off a week, with no resolution in sight.

So during tomorrow's big snow storm I will have to trek out to a local bar or something to see the first NFL playoff game.

Directv says the local stations are charging them for what they offer free over the air (antenna) but these local stations know that Directv is charging its customers for the signal, so they want their cut.And their website weakly argues that at least customers won't miss the national collegiate football championship game which is on another network, but like I said, $2,000 a year and I have been a customer since 1995....not much longer if this continues!!

Playoffs are on national television and will be hosted on ESPN.

Most of that is correct the point is really the same, It isn't that the local channels "want their cut" it's that they go through negotiations, I don't know if you were already directed to directvpromise .com however if you weren't, Go there, click local stations, put in the zip code and select the county of where you are and then read, The brief summary is an umbrella company called Hearst Television owns a lot of local affiliates and just as well it's not only Boston or rather was since it was fixed on 1/7/2016 but point being, Yes directv goes through negotiations.

No..you don't pay 10$ a month for local channels, As far as how much you pay PER CHANNEL if for example you have the choice package which is 74.99 and comes with 175+ channels, IF you have 15 local channels that means you are paying .42 per channel, and .42 * 15 is only 6.30 now if you are in a package like choice that has a "Regional Sports Fee" that is not for local channels, those are for **REGIONAL SPORTS** stuff like YES, MSG, MSG+ and of course down south for us, it...
