I've been a customer with them since 2011. Unknowingly, by sending a new receiver I was locked into a new two year contract in 2014. Now, I'm moving into an apartment that does not allow satellite installation and I have to cancel. They claim that I now will have to pay a $240 cancellation fee on a contract that I never agreed to and I need to return the receiver. I recently bought a brand new 4k Ultra HD with 2160 resolution. My current receiver maximum resolution is 1080p. So I go online and look to upgrade my equipment. The receiver I need says $99. I try to order it, it won't let me. I call and try to order it, then I"m told that price is only for new customers and if I want that receiver it cost $299 plus another $99 for the smaller box. Direct tv service is a scam. The 2 year contact they stick you with and than any time you change any equipment the 2 years starts over again. I am paying for on demand services but some reason only half my boxes are capable to receive on demand. If want to upgrade I will have to pay more and stay for another 2 years. I hate direct tv and I have spent hours on the phone with there customer service reps who pretend to not understand the problem... Read more

After ordering directv the workers arrived 3 weeks later after the scheduling persons forgot to inform the workers. I was billed for service the month prior Even tho I had no service. After frustration I asked to drop service and fix the problem. Once dropped within the 3 month time period I had charges for the full 12 months although everything was returned. I moved from Denver to San Francisco on June 10th and discontinued my service at that time. It is now the 10th of August and I got a bill for $300 for the last two months after calling last month and told I was paid up. These companies that bundle with Direct tv, like century link and At &t, just compound the confusion and irritation when anything needs to be changed. I have had DirecTV for twenty years, back when you had to purchase a receiver from a third party. I upgraded to genie about a year ago and have had problems with it freezing intermittently since I have owned it. Another thing I noticed is that there is a much longer delay when changing channels compared to the older system I had. I just learned from my roommate who is account holder, that not only can we not get service in time to salvage any part of NFL opening weekend, for which we pay a premium, but we also must pay DTV extra to switch out their broken unit. What business charges the customer a premium when they fail to deliver the product? The idea of it is just insane, and DTV is insulting to its customers. Todays "Apple TV" upgrade allowed support for HBO GO streaming. However Direct TV is not supporting this feature. According to the email and telephone response I received from them they really are not interested in supporting any 3rd party devices. I called them up and cancelled my movie channels. My receiver burned out. I received another, different one and hooked it up. I called to activate it on Sunday, Nov.18,2012. After it was set up, I needed to set the remote to my tv as I have another tv and receiver next to my other tv. I did not want this remote changing BOTH tv's! Direct TV is such a scam! They advertise move up to 5 times for free. I just called them b/c I moved 6 miles down the road, there is already sat. cables in the house, and they want $500 to move the service. What in the world? I have to use all the same equipment, which I have to pack up and bring, minus the dish itself.
